I kind of have similar fears about the show as that other guy does. This is an American cartoon, after all, and outside of He-Man and She-Ra I've never seen an American cartoon that started off good and stayed that way. I see four possibilities with the next season: 1. the "A Link to the Past" possibility - it gives us more of what we love and maybe refines it a little, pleasing almost everypony. This season, the Cutie Mark Crusaders go into dirtbike racing, Applejack switches bodies with Rarity, Twilight gets her first kiss and Luna actually appears again! 2. The "Adventure of Link" possibility - it tries to do something completely different, which garners its share of fans but mostly just pisses off the fanbase. Get ready for an action-packed season as Rarity, Twilight, Pinkie Pie, Applejack and Fluttershy become the EquestriaTeers! Bestowed with the Elements of Harmony, their mission is to bring friendship and magic to areas in need! And when their five elements combine, they summon Equestria's greatest champion, Rainbow Dash! 3. the "Metal Gear Solid 2" possibility - It does something different, and it's SO EFFING AWESOME that its too much for most people to comprehend, so a lot of people will hate it even though its the best thing to ever happen to them. A season-wide plotline in which Rainbow Dash's wings gets clipped, leading her into the dangerous world of LARP where she discovers that Derpy Hooves is in fact a witch planning the overthrow of the Equestrian royalty!... or is this all part of the game? Plus, Fluttershy finally breaks into Rainbow Dash's bedroom and makes a shocking discovery, and just who is Twilight Sparkle? Why is Celestia pink as a toy but white in the show? The important thing is what message we pass on to future generations, so we have to be careful with our memes! 4. The "Metal Gear Solid 3" possibility. It will be such a descent into mediocrity that people will suddenly worship it and claim that the series has reached new heights, even though it's been incredibly dumbed-down and a lot of awful development decisions were made. Suddenly, the show switches to a two-shorts format where every third episode is about Pinkie Pie having a solo adventure. Twilight continues learning lessons in friendship only now those lessons consist of things like "never lie to your friends" and "remember to give tips." The ponies will all the sudden be in a rock band and every episode will end with them doing some horribly saccharine song. Princess Celestia will be pink just to match the toy. All the villains will return, but it turns out they're all actually good people who were just going through a rough patch, and after learning a lesson about good manners, they warm up! Also, Rainbow Dash can so totally defeat the sniper if she tranqs his parrot. There you go, the four possibilities for the second season of My Little Pony.Okay yes, I was being a little frivolous when I initially made that post. But today I looked at the satellite schedule, and it says that the new episode (to premiere this weekend) is going to be about... someone named Discord escaping from a "stone prison" and the ponies have to stop him using the Elements of Harmony. That already has shades of Possibilities #2 and #4--the "bad" possibilities. Am I the only one who has a bad feeling about this?
Comments
Also, Discord is basically the cartoon version of Q.
Where's the "HAHAHA OH WOW" macro when you need it?
wereare (Keeping the grammar fail for lulzes)When it moved to Kids WB and became "The New Batman Adventures."
I thought most people were agreed it JTS when it became libertarian propoganda? (Personally I think of it more as an okay show that every once in awhile has a really funny episode).
Was never good.
The second season was a huge step down from the first.
Was itself a step down from the rest of the DCAU
Started going downhill when it became Marvel trying to plug all their other comic books. Also, Electro being the Nazi's secret weapon.
Was never good.
Immediately went to shit in the second season.
The third season was worse than the second.
Was never good.
Haven't seen.
Is overrated.
Went terrible after an episode where he basically should've gotten back home (the episode where those forest people teach him how to jump really high) but inexplicably he's still stuck in the future for a couple of more seasons.
Didn't most people agree that "Fast Forward" was the series JTS moment?
And if you mean the 1987 series: season three. The show never quite recovered.
There are people who liked that?
Haven't seen the whole series, can't comment.
moving on to another matter:
Yes, a lot of new mechanics you're probably never gonna use, a lot of them badly-implemented (arbitrary menus, pressure-sensitive button commands etc). There was a bit of discussion about it here.
I might've made things easier on myself by calling it the "Peace Walker possibility," but that game is nowhere near as universally-loved as MGS3 is.
Anyway! The point is with Ponies, we've been sitting through "Pinkie Pie wants to be invited to a party! Fluttershy can't cheer! The kids are putting on a talent show!" This is the stuff we LIKED. And yet the very first thing they have when they begin a new season is... "introducing a new supervillain that the heroes have to band together to defeat!"
If its just a one-off thing then perhaps it won't be so bad, but I can't help thinking having Twilight and girl with stage fright, girl who can't cheer and girl whose twitchy tail predicts falling objects fighting evil and crime is going to become a Plot Tumor.
>Was never good.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
;_;
I hope.
*hugs*
Should I break my abstinence and take a painkiller, or just have faith that the Ponies won't have jumped the shark?
Really.
What then Mr. Smart guy.
