Talking about less popular things
It's easy to make a conversation about Pokemon because nearly everyone knows what that is, but it's hard to talk about, let alone reference BIT.TRIP because no one would know what I was talking about.

Yeah, I think talking about unpopular or less popular things can be somewhat difficult. There is the issue you mentioned about other people not being able to understand you. Then I think there is the problem of seeming like a "hipster" and such when people ask you about your favorite movie/book/TV series/game and you would rather not talk about it because it would be difficult to describe to someone completely unfamiliar with it.
Seeming like a hipster isn't really that much of a problem. It all depends on how you talk about whatever you're talking about.
I think that is true and I tend to agree. Still, from what I can tell, some people can feel excluded if you say something like "it's difficult to explain" or the like. Similarly, if a good deal of your favorite bands/TV shows/movies/games/books are obscure, I think it can be difficult to answer someone's question about your favorites when your response will probably more or less be meaningless to him or her.
That is not to say that it is bad that other people do not have the same interests or favorites as you do, just that it can make those kind of conversations a little awkward. I feel like this kind of thing can become a bit more annoying when you are part of a discussion of different people's favorite bands or TV shows in which everyone else mentioned something fairly mainstream, but your favorites are all fairly niche. I guess I think it is tough to not seem elitist in such instances. Your mileage may vary on whether that is big concern for you though.
Who cares about the X-Box when you have a TurboGrafx? Who cares about Batman when you have Bravestarr? Who cares about Gears of War when you have X-Multiply? Who cares about Gurren Lagann when you have Ranma?... Sadly, the answer is "everyone but me."
WAAAAAHHHHH.
If something is not popular, not many people like/know about it, and so not be inclined to talk about it.
That doesn't change based on whether it's a geek you're talking about or not.
Disappointed, yes. But not angry.
