    If it gets really heavy handed it sometimes feels like the writers are saying I'm too dumb to be interested in the plot and characters and need T&A to stay interested.

    It depends on how it's done, for me. Generally speaking, I don't mind fanservice if it's done in a subtle way. If an attractive character is onscreen without a shirt on, I'll enjoy the eyecandy. It's only annoying when it's thrown in my face like "LOOK AT IT. SEE HOW SEXY IT IS?"

    I usually hate any and all forms of fanservice usually found in, say, harem anime. It's the one thing I hate about Index.

    I really hate it when people watch anime with lots of fanservice and EXPECT IT TO BE ABOUT SOMETHING ELSE.

    A fanservice show with robots is a fanservice show with robots in it, not a robot show with too much fanservice.

    Astheatical appeal. Also, porn tends to be blunt, and some people don't like blunt, over the top attempts at sexiness. Mostly because the more you try, the less you are.

    Some people like watching shows where fucking and penetration aren't involved, but there is still T+A or lingerie shots. Plus, most fucking isn't accessible to them (age/money/internet restrictions), and doesn't have a vague story behind it.

    Sometimes porn is unintentionally (or intentionally) hilarious though, in ways regular fanservice isn't.  So there's that.
