  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.
...does this thread have any redeeming value besides a Pokémon derail anyway?

It does have people wondering about site policies, which is worth discussing.

Yes, it's a good case for you and your team to study.
  • @GMH: Nope, hence the PokeTalk. The other option is Ponies.

"It's the same everywhere else. I'm not saying that's a good thing, I'm just saying it shouldn't be surprising."

I shouldn't be, but it hits me, personally, a lot harder seeing people that I consider to be my friends act like this. It's not like I forfeit my feelings by taking on the mod hat.

    "Also, sorry, I guess."

    I suppose I'm sorry, too.
  • @Bob: Awww. But how else am I supposed to educate people on how Pinkie Pie is totally the best Pony?
  • Pinky Pie is the best pony? Since when.

We all know Applejack is the best.

I think that's part of the problem. By viewing these people (myself included) as friends, you form attachments to them, making it harder to pass accurate judgement. Then again, I'm sure a bunch of people want me banned, so what do I know?

    I suppose I'm sorry, too.

    You should be. Why?
  • @Counterclock: You realise of course that them's fightin' words?
  • You can change. You can.

You don't need to be completely detached to understand when a friend of yours is being a dick.
  • But not being attached can help with that, blah blah conflict of interest blah.
  • What Noim said.

...Wow, that felt weird to type.

Captain, Clock, obviously candybag is the best pony.

  • Detaching yourself isn't completely necessary, You can temp-ban someone if they're acting like an ass, and perma-pan someone if the refuse to check themselves.

@CaptainFargle: If you think it's a fight to pit Apple Jack against Pinkie Pie, then go ahead, I see it more as a curbstomp battle.

It's not that it makes it harder to pass accurate judgment. It just makes it hurt more. And if people want me to believe that being a mod means I shouldn't have any friends, I'll quit. I'd really rather not be so conflicted.

"Then again, I'm sure a bunch of people want me banned, so what do I know?"

I highly doubt that. I know I don't. Yes, you occasionally step out of line. So do I. So does just about everyone here except, like, LouieW or something.

That's why we don't have only one mod.

    @Bob: Well that was disturbing.....

    @Forzare: Hell yeah!
  • If by disturbing you mean [insert stupid pony word here], then yes. ^_^

Yes. That's what we try to do.

The problem is, the people we ban don't detach themselves either. And if we ban someone we consider a friend, it hurts our relationship.

We do it anyway, but it's not easy.

Well, thankfully "I am never buying Hostess donuts again." thread cheered me right up and reminded me why I still really enjoy this place.

    I pretty much second Cygan.
  • Well, Its not your fault as mods if people can't calm down.

Just like you don't let your friends drink and drive, no matter how "Fun" it is, sometimes you gotta stamp your foot down.
  • Yep. Best case scenario, you find an alternate way of communicating with them and stay in touch.

"Wait, how are you guys able to consider the dumbfucks you have had to banned as friends?"

I don't. It's more the people who, while their presence is generally enjoyable, occasionally act in a poor manner and the mods have to let off easy, lest we apply the same warnings to seemingly half the userbase.

    I don't think that's the point.

the point is that we're not being any better by...you know...doing this. This whole thing, where we whine and complain about other users, fight constantly and bicker about random shit and immediately turn anything into a possible shitstorm.

You supposedly complain every day about how this place needs independency and how you're much better than the judgement you get from outsiders, but you come up with shit like this...and tell me...how are we supposed to think you're better than that?

It took me a time to get used to this place, admittedly, and it might have helped that I didn't have much expectations as the place was...well...lacking, to be honest, but so are the other forums I visit, so eh.

Point is, that is not just the people who are banned right now who need to check their attitudes, in my opinion.

I haven't had to ban a friend yet, but it has popped up as a concern in the past.

Incidentally, please don't use language like that about other users.

    This, exactly.

Yes. That is essentially what we're driving at.

The userbase as a general whole is expressing a lot of... well, bad behaviour.
