@Myrm: IIRC what you're experiencing isn't that they turn off the threads to non-members it an IP thing that occurs after you've lurking for a certain amount of time. It lasts for 30 days or so. 

As for membership, I have one and it was totally worth it. I'm considering buying archives as well. The great thing about SA's LP forum is that it has standards. When you create an LP there you're expected to have a certain degree of competence and technical quality. Fail to provide that and you're either going to be banned, ignored until your thread dies or laughed off the site and it works wonders. 

I used to watch LP's from all kinds of sources but eventually the massive increase in quality that SA presents has led to me watching LP's from there pretty much exclusively now.
