    ^^What about Vorpy and AHR?

    Has friends besides tanks now
^^ It is. But Aggron is just a total badass.

I am not getting into serious business bullshit with anyone, I refuse. I just wish EVs and IVs would be repaired for more game fluency, and for some of the metagame to quit getting less intense and improve a bit. But since Gamefreak's priorities lie in things more important than online game balancing, I won't bust a vein and slit my wrists over it.

@Wicked: What's really remarkable is that I'll actually discuss Pokemon more enthusiastically than I will for Sonic the Hedgehog. But that's mainly because even though I love Sonic more his games don't have an in-depth strategic battle system.

@Vorpy: GameFreak actually does do a hell of a lot of in-game balancing. There's just a few egregious examples that haven't been fully ironed out.

Hmm. Gotta hate EVs and IVs. But I don't want to worry too much about it.

Re-read my post. And please don't tell me 9 examples aren't good enough.

^^ It's amazing how broken the first game is compared to the others.

egregious? You mean like Poison's lack of support and ineffectiveness? or something else?

If I recall, Poison is a type that should be used to tank, but gets a lot of offensive Pokemon in it, while Ice gets too many walls when it benefits far more from offensive Pokemon using the type
  • edited 2011-07-11 19:53:18
@Vorpy: Poison getting rather screwed by the type chart is pretty low actually. I'm talking about things like Darkrai or Kyogre w/Choice Scarf and Water Spout.

@Ical: Ice is THE worst defensive type. To the point that it's so bad it drags down most Ice mons. It's a fantastic attacking type though. Hence why you mostly see Ice moves all over the place on non-Ice mons but rarely see Ice types themselves.
  • Poison has the issue of Earthquake being one of the most popular attacks in the game.

^^^ And then there's poor Rock. Until Gen IV, it was almost worthless.

^^ That reminds me. Isn't the combination of Poison/Dark with Levitate one of the few combinations with no weaknesses?
  • edited 2011-07-11 19:56:20

It's one of two, I think. The other is Electric + Levitate.

EDIT: Dark/Ghost, Bug/Steel with Flash Fire and Dark/Poison.
  • @Ical: Yes, along with Dark/Ghost and Electric w/Levitate.

Kind of shows how poison could be a nasty type to deal with if they had some better type combinations that were more defensively minded

Imagine a levitating Dark/Poison whittling away your HP with status effects while healing itself from pitiful damage, the only thing able to get to it being a combination of gravity and a powerful ground type attack...

EDIT: Inkblot, Bug/Poison with Flash Fire is still weak to flying
  • edited 2011-07-11 20:15:27
You basically do have that with Weezing, whose only weakness is Psychic which is very rare as an attacking type. Barring weakness to Earthquake, Poison is strong defensively. It's just SHIT offensively. As in worse than Steel, which is really saying something.

    EDIT: Redacted
  • ☭Unstoppable Sex Goddess☭
Steel is supereffective to Ice and Rock...and...that's it I think.

I forget that offensive and defensive types are different, where offensive is the attacks and defensive is the type pairings on the pokemon themselves.
  • Steel is indeed only Super Effective on Ice and Rock. It's NVE against Fire, Water and Elec.

It has immunity to Poison and resists Rock, Grass, Psychic, Flying, Bug, Normal, Ghost, Steel, Ice, Dragon and Dark.

  • EDIT: Inkblot, Bug/Poison with Flash Fire is still weak to flying

    Yeah, sorry, I meant Bug/Steel.

  • @Inkblot: It appears I was incorrect earlier. Forgot that Bug resists Fighting.
  • ☭Unstoppable Sex Goddess☭
So even if Steel had a 95 ATK sweeper move....it wouldn't be worth much?
  • No rainbow star
Anybody else think that Steel should be supereffective against dragons? Due to the whole knights slaying dragons thing?
  • edited 2011-07-11 20:36:57
@Icalasari: Nah, Steel is strong enough as is. It's designed to be Defensive from the get-go.

Wait when you say 95 Atk, you're referring to Base Power right?

If so, Flash Cannon and Iron Tail. How often do you see those?

The only Steel type attacking moves you'll ever see anyone really recommending are Meteor Mash and Bullet Punch.

The only other time you'll see Steel attacks recommended are:

A)The Pokemon being trained is Steel type and needs the offensive boost that STAB provides.
B)It's movepool is shit and it has no other options. Klinklang, Vanniluxe etc.

Are there any cases where a bug type move other than U Turn is recommended?
  • edited 2011-07-11 21:57:52
Absolutely, Bug is actually a pretty good type.

Bug Buzz, X-Scissor, Megahorn, Quiver Dance, Signal Beam.

Attack, Defend and Heal Order if you're Vespiquen.

Tail Glow is an utter necessity for Volbeat and Manaphy. Did you see the update Tail Glow got in 5th Gen? It raises Sp. Atk THREE stages now.

EDIT: Bug Bite is also good in certain circumstances, like Technician Scizor or if you're trying to counter a mon that you know typically relies on using a Berry in it's strategies.

    Holy, THREE stages?

...Must get a code for a Manaphy egg in BW and do a solo run now
  • edited 2011-07-11 23:01:50
Ehh, Manaphy is a Base 100. It can solo the whole damn game easily enough as is without Tail Glow.

I'm considering a challenge run where I'm only allowed to use Watchog, Delibird, Farfetch'd, Luvdisc, Sunflora and Spinda.

I'm debating replacing Sunflora for having stats that are too high and replacing it with Delcatty or something.
