So I finally decided to watch an episode of My Little Pony

edited 2011-06-07 20:52:17 in Media

Because if I could sit through an episode of K-On!, why not? And it has Nicole Oliver voice acting in it, so that got me mildly interested.

I tried to ignore the hype while watching it, since a show should always be judged on its own merits. It's a pretty good show, but I'm not going to be switching out Red Eye for a pony avatar any time soon. First episode was a two-parter, so I probably will see the conclusion, but if I'm watching further, it'll be on my own time.

So that's my impression of the show. Now get off my lawn.

I tried to watch through the first episode, but it was just...too My Little Pony.

Maybe I will give it another chance sometime.
  • needs moar >
  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.
Needs to break the page less, thanks.
  • You can change. You can.
U just jelly that nobody cares about those girls who don't even play their instruments right.

Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the last Day.
    ^^^^ hahahaha

    ^^^ hahaha
  • K-On! is fine, but it's bland as hell. It's not really something I'd say is on the same level of quality and complexity as MLP.

    > Complexity

    > MLP

I know I'll get lynched, but HAHAHAHA OH WOW...

"It's not really something I'd say is on the same level of quality and complexity as MLP."

Elaborate, please (people throw around the word "deep" and "complex" too often without merit most of the time). I can say that while K-On's first episode convinced me it would be another forgettable high school show, MLP's first episode set up interestingly enough.

I figured I'd get some weird reactions for that. Note that I never said it was complex, just more complex than K-On!

I don't feel like going into detail since I've already talked about this before and I have a paper to be working on, but I'll just say that I don't think the conflicts and characters in MLP are as flat as those in K-On!

I don't even think that complexity necessarily makes a work more enjoyable, it's just that I think the creators of MLP were being more imaginative than those of K-On!

    Loser

I can understand why K-On! may not be your cup of tea (that was a rather horrible pun, sorry). Still, I do think that the second season (K-On!!) is different from the first and some see it as being superior to K-On!. I believe that is DYRE's view if I remember correctly and I agree with that conclusion.

    Abyss_Worm,
It's a pretty good show, but I'm not going to be switching out Red Eye for a pony avatar any time soon.

Would you mind explaining your impressions of the show a bit (either soon or after you watch the second episode)? I am interested in hearing why you think that, partially so I can hear more about the show from someone who is not already a huge fan of it.

    ~♥YES♥~! I *AM* a ~♥cupcake♥~! ^_^
K-on! may be bland, but its very nature as Iyashikei Is enough for me. It isn't supposed to be spectacular or deep, just... soothing - a source of contentment.

It's not as good as My Little Pony though.

    K-on!

@Gelzo: Fair enough. I honestly don't care about both, but I felt that calling MLP complex was a bit overboard.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to see Plastic Roman Centurions saving their baby girls from Eyeptach wearing ladies with the aid of a mad alien with a box that travels through time and space.

I'd rather this not turn into a fan gang war or whatever the shit you'd call it.

Goddammit, JC, I never said it was complex, I said it wasn't on the same level of complexity as K-On!
  • You can change. You can.
@Gelzo: -shrug- I was referencing more the misinterpretation than your actual post. Anyway, sorry, Rory the Roman just blew an entire Cyber Fleet, gotta go.
  • $80+ per session
They don't have noses, cat ears are overrated, lolis suck, and their music is kind of lame.

    Ponies win.
  • K-On vs. Ponies rivalry.

    Didn't see that coming.

    Cue-bey
I would watch more MLP, but everybody in my house can see both computers from pretty much everywhere.

I wish I could get in on this :c
  • Wait a minute...

I think MLP might have had more music in the first season than K-On!'s. Someone might want to check that.
  • When in Turkey, ROCK THE FUCK OUT
Meh. Adventure Time is better than both of them.

    Has friends besides tanks now
    @ evilneko: Saved.

    "They don't have noses . . ."

Not a detractor, in my opinion.

    ". . . cat ears are overrated . . ."

    Are not! :<

    ". . . lolis suck . . ."

    They're not lolis, though.

". . . and their music is kind of lame."

    . . . Okay, I'll give you that one. /metalhead

Point is, I can't imagine myself enjoying MLP, but K-On! was charming and a definite pick-up.

But I don't feel like getting more involved than this because this thread has already become kinda silly.
  • ^^I actually agree with you.
  • $80+ per session
Adventure Time is at least in the same awesome league as MLP, with clever humor, awesome art, great music, pop culture references, humor that appeals outside of the targest demographic and an internet fandom aware dev team.
  • You can change. You can.
I just came back because I can't understand British accents without subs ;_; I want to finish this argument preemptively.

Calling either show 'deep' or 'complex' is a surefire way to lose the argument. Even if you're arguing that one is just more complex than the other.

-speaking as someone who;s watched 7 episodes of MLP and is being forced to watch K-On and Lucky Star-

^see I was gonna point that out, but I wanted to let sleeping dogs lie.

^^ I actually thought of that when I posted.
