  • No, actually doctors don't have the right to withhold treatment. That's part of their oath.
  • Yeah you pretyt much are. If you sacrifice the individual to the collective you are.

    Wealth over healthcare.

Although I might have misread...if I did so, I apologize.

Ah, OK.  That isn't quite what I intended to imply.  What I intended to imply is that as a voter, I claim a right to expect the ends (healthcare) justify the means (wealth).

I am also implying that I would prefer the burden of proof be placed on justifying spending as opposed to justifying not spending, and I do not believe that to be the case currently in many countries.

Tnu, what you consider to be just may not be what other people consider to be just.

Not to mention that you're thinking in a lot of theoretical terms and political philosophy and that's all good and well until you actually try to apply your thinking to real-life situations.

Because in real life, you have to make some very hard choices.
  • Who set that oath up? a Unanimous collection of the doctors of the world? or is it merely an individual understanding?
  • You can change. You can.

  • I am Dr. Ned who is totally not Dr. Zed in disguise.

    When you say:

In regards to healthcare, why not like at the WHO's reports on healthcare, and see that America spends so much more on healthcare than those countries with 'socialised' healthcare, yet is ranked lower in terms of healthcare provided. (As well as other indicator like average age of death etc.)
  • then we need to stop subsidizing it and encouraging unsavory business practices

    > implying that business practices in the absence of regulation are always savory
  • > Implying that regulations only solve everything and don't have any negative side effects whatsoever.

    Can someone please interpret that?
  • Wait did we both straw-man or just me?

Glenn didnt say anything about regulations being good, Tnu.

Yeah, regulations do restrict people from doing things as freely and easily.

However, people doing things completely freely and easily causes other bad effects.

So you get both together.  The only question is how much of each.

As I said, as a real-life policymaker, you would have to make difficult choices.  How much are you willing to suffer the bad effects to let businesses operate unfettered?  On the other hand, what restrictions are you willing to put on business practices to keep the air and water clean and to keep businesses from unfairly squashing competition?
  • usually i'll err on the side of freedom and less intervention by some sort of government hands.
