Witches

edited 2011-05-09 19:42:31 in Media
They are so much cooler than princesses because they are actually the ones in control (while the princess usually ends up a love interest) and go out and do things more often, yet princesses get all the attention.

  • I am Dr. Ned who is totally not Dr. Zed in disguise.
Embedded christian values and hatred towards witches.

Although I doubt it, unless you live somewhere super christian.

Princesses as they are feminine and girls should be feminine in society?

Well, princesses actually existed, and in fiction are more often deflowered, if you know what I mean.

I mean they lost their virginity.
  • Witches got a great deal of attention during the eighties/nineties. But princesses just win out as wish fulfillment due to actually existing (if not as idealized, but you know fiction).

And while we're at it, I might as well plug Princess Tutu, which you should definitely watch.

Well I guess "Queen" is more accurate for this character but still...

    Expected Madoka thread.
  • I think the Madoka witches are better than the usual sort.
  • When in Turkey, ROCK THE FUCK OUT
    oh look boobehs
  • Madoka has stupid witches.  Also has no princesses.

    Therefore, Princess Tutu is better.

Can we have a non-pagebreaking version?

Also, yes, Princess Tutu is definitely better than Madoka.
  • I dunno how to resize here.

There are things better than Madoka Magica?

^ No. Don't let them fool you.

Joking aside, I need to watch past episode 2 of Princess Tutu, huh? Well, I'm watching Durarara!! now, so Princess Tutu will have to wait.

Who's the girl in the gigantic picture, by the way?
  • When in Turkey, ROCK THE FUCK OUT
    Yes.

    They are called Cowboy Bebop.

Yes, I know I really should stop plugging it for hype backlash and whatnot, but goddamit I just can't stop.

    What's a madoka?

^^ If it makes you feel any better, I don't mind you plugging it. In fact, the only reason I'm not going to watch it is because it's too old.
  • You most definitely do need to watch past episode 2 of Princess Tutu.  It starts getting really good about a third of the way through the series, though I still liked the early parts of it too.  It's just that the first part of the series is a lot more monster-of-the-week-ish without as much plot advancement.

And the girl in the picture is... um... one of the characters from Dog Days.  Whose name I forgot.

    @Everest: It's like a decade old, dude.

^^ I understand that. But I was watching other things at the same time, which happened to be Kore Wa Zombie Desu Ka? and Madoka, and they both caught my attention more immediately. I stopped watching Zombie when it started taking itself seriously, but I only have three or four more episodes of it to watch, so that, too, will come before Princess Tutu.

It also doesn't help that I didn't like Princess Tutu's art.

^ I know that. It's still too old. I'm really picky about art.

Well, that doesn't explain why I like One Piece so much, I suppose. So let's just leave it at I'm picky.
  • "when it started taking itself seriously,"

    ...to what degree of "serious"?
  • I thought I was picky about art but then I decided to watch Mobile Suit Gundam.  Now everything else looks good in comparison, so I don't have to worry about being turned off by bad art anymore! :D

(well... it's not that Gundam's art is terrible... but it's old.  And has lots of parts where it really is terrible...)

^^ To the point of focusing more on its crappy plot than the humor that the show had provided up to that point. The whole show is kind of sketchy when it comes to balancing seriousness and comedy.
  • I'm really picky about art.
    Good art
    Bad Art

    Know the difference!

^^ I honestly think the 'bad art' looks better with shading and more details than the first one.

Unless I'm missing some kind of anime joke.

^ You're missing a joke. The "Meduka" picture, though I can't see it, is almost certainly an off-model frame. Apparently off-model frames were quite common in Madoka.

Difference is, Cowboy Bebop has that consistent graininess that comes with older shows, while Madoka is quite clearly new and, in the frames that were meant to be focused on, rather than played quickly in-sequence or from a distance, quite beautiful. The quality of the art itself is a factor for me, yes, and I'll admit that Cowboy Bebop is technically quite well-done. But it's still too old. That's all I can really say, as there's no logical basis for my dislike of old shows other than that the art is grainier.

For the record, I never said older art was worse. It's just not to my liking.
  • Good art is a no hotlinking image.
  • I am Dr. Ned who is totally not Dr. Zed in disguise.
    ^^ Ah QUALITY.
  • When in Turkey, ROCK THE FUCK OUT
I guess it's subjective. I like it graininess, as it had kind of a Western/noir atmosphere to the whole thing.
  • in the frames that were meant to be focused on, quite beautiful.
While the picture quality is pretty good, they're still Hidamari Sketch character designs, in what tries to be a serious show. I guess YMMV.

^ What better way to disguise the true nature of the show than by using cutesier-than-usual character designs, I say.
