IJBM D&D game! (discussion)
Comments
^ Roll 1d20+2.
(Rolled: 1d20+2. Rolls: 16. Total: 18)
Nova is doing the rolling, I asked for the result, not seeing that she'd posted it already.
I hadn't posted it already; I rolled it during that post.
Everyone was actually doing their own rolling, as All Nines wanted to, but I don't mind doing it on my own for anyone who wants.
Okay.
Well yeah, I'd prefer you do it for a couple reasons. Mainly because I don't have dice.
I suppose I could use WoTC's dice roller but I don't have it open.
I also don't even remember how to determine whether or not a spell/spell-like hits or not, because I'm dumb.
IJBM has a built-in die roller, bro. [ roll]xdy+ z[/r oll]
There's a dice rolling plugin on the forum, actually.
You just type1d20+whatever , but with [square brackets] instead.
So, I rolled a 2+6.
If it's a ray/blast of some sort, it's most likely a touch attack, which, at range, means Dexterity + BAB.
what?
....why?
I mean, don't get me wrong, it's useful here, but I'm kind of curious as to what the impetus for its creation is.
(Rolled: 1d6. Rolls: 5. Total: 5)
I really wish Vanilla would stop inserting massive amounts of blank space after my posts.
POTENTIAL CHEATING DETECTED. If it appears that dice were rolled in this post, they may need to be disregarded as fabricated.
nice notice, by the way.

I asked Unknown_Entity to implement if for roleplays.
Because, well, IJBMers like to put together games just like this.
Also, don't forget the attack roll (I'm assuming Elemental Ray requires an attack roll).
I will allow you to roll it with the plugin, if you'd like. :P
Have to sleep now, sadly :c
Okay, so my Dexterity is 14, and I don't appear to have a base attack bonus at all. At least not one pertinent here, unless I'm just looking at the wrong part of my character sheet.
I'm also not sure what to um, do with this number.
I'm sorry, I'm a doof.
Night.
I probably should squeeze in at least four hours, as well. Night.
I forgot how useless Djanain would be against undead. And since I didn't consider them, I brushed burning hands aside as universally less useful than color spray, which I can't imagine would work on skeletons.
^^ Dex 14 gives you a modifier of 2, which, added to your +0 Base Attack Bonus (since only characters like Fighters, Barbarians, and Paladins start off with +1), means you roll 1d20+2 against the target's Touch AC to hit.
A Dexterity of 14 means you have a DEX Modifier of +2. When rolling Dexterity checks, you add this number to the base roll.
You don't have a BAB at Level 1 as a Sorceror, no. You will at later levels.
Basically, to determine if you hit, you roll [1d20+Dex Modifier+BAB]. In this instance:
(Rolled: 1d20+2. Rolls: 6. Total: 8)
We will go with that 8, then.
I still don't know how to figure out if that's a hit or a miss, though. Doesn't it have to be higher than some value on the skeleton?
Actually, it does.
The rules note that skeletons (non-living creatures) will not be knocked unconscious. It will blind and stun it for 2d4 rounds, then than an additional 1d4 rounds, then stun it for one round.
^^ For future reference/friendly tip, 10 is the baseline for every defense on medium-sized creatures, so that's probably a miss. :V
^ Oh. Well, that works, then. I'll wait to see how many, though, since I might cast shield instead. Never before I have I felt the pain of having to actually conserve spells. It's p. great.
Well, night, for reals this time.
Ah.
Should I make an actual roll in the thread, or should we just go with that 8?
You have to roll it against the Skeleton's Touch AC.
In this case, this is [Secret GM Number], meaning that you miss.
Generally, creatures have a base AC of 10, plus an armour bonus, a shield bonus, a Dexterity bonus, and other miscellaneous bonuses, including natural armour.
Ordinarily, the Skeleton would have a Natural Armour of 2, plus DR5/Bludgeoning (Ex). However, I think that a skeleton having DR at Level 1 is bullshit, so I've ruled that Skeletons have a Natural Armour of 2, where that bonus is lost if you are using a Bludgeoning weapon.
Roll when the combat actually starts.
Oh. Well, those skeleton houserules certainly help a bit. I guess they didn't drink enough milk in life?
Dammit. I'd self-flagellate for my blatant lying about sleep, but that's hardly conducive to sleep.
okay.
Just let me know when to roll 'em and I will.
Sorry for all the hand-holding it's just, like I said, I stoopid.
More like I think it's bullshit that you can shoot a ball of acid at them and it will do nothing even if it hits them.
'kay
I think I'll get searing light somewhere down the line.
The DR 5/Bludgeoning has nothing to do with acid splash, being a touch attack, it ignores damage reduction in its entirety.
Huh.
Actually, it ignores it because it's a spell, not because it's a touch attack- although it would also ignore it because it's a touch attack.
I always took DR5/Magic to mean... magic, not magic weapons. Silly me.
Still, I'm sticking to my houserule.
So yeah, our first battle is with skeletons. I feel so castlevania right now.
