I'll amend my statement: should they choose to contribute. It'd be one thing if she was chastising us for actively withholding commentary, but people actually speak up well and often in that class, and yet she wants us to evaluate what we're doing wrong, as if we don't know how class discussions work.

  • I'm a damn twisted person

My local Barnes & Noble is still mostly books. There are other things, though.

@Alex: All the swords? Including Vibroswords from BattleTech?

  • One foot in front of the other, every day.

Depends if they fit the technical requirements of a sword or whether they're merely sword-shaped weapons.

They're swords that vibrate and you can stick them on mechs. That good enough for you?

Blagh. That's the same thing as the progressive knives of EVA.

  • So, Die Welle (The Wave) is a pretty entertaining. Social sciences would be much cooler (and Dr Mengele levels of unethical) if they did that kind of experiments more often.

Ted was OK too, I guess.

  • You can change. You can.

I forget. Was The Third Wave experiment performed with the consent of the involved? The scale makes me want to say "no" but still.

So I have orientation for my new job today. Yay.

Also I accidentally cleared my 21645 notifications. Not yay.

I did that exact same thing. It sucks :<

  • ^^^ Given the nature of the experiment, I don't think so. That's the problem with social experiments in general.

  • You can change. You can.

why do you people care about notifications

i feel like i'm missing something here

^Yeah, I somehow can't imagine collecting all those signatures being something a social psychologist would prioritize unless they're tied by those silly "morals" and "ethics" all the new kids in the block are talking about these days.

Oh, by the way, it's time to slam now, IJBM:

On lunch break. Orientation isn't bad so far. A bit boring at times but I'm getting paid so I don't mind.

What was the job, again? It seemed sort of vague when you told us about it the other time.

If that don't work, use more gun.

So I'm looking for a new computer, one that has good performance, and is a good gaming comp. What would you guys recommend? Or at least, what parts would you recommend that computer has?

  • Give us fire! Give us ruin! Give us our glory!

    ^Desk or laptop?

  • If that don't work, use more gun.

    Laptop.

Is it important for you to play newer games with high detail and good performance? Also, what's the rough amount of cash you're willing to spend?

  • If that don't work, use more gun.

Not that important really. Hmm, what processors and graphics cards would you guys recommend?

    Eh, about $1,000.

Give us fire! Give us ruin! Give us our glory!

    Here's the laptop I'm using.

2nd gen i7 with an NVIDIA GT 555M graphics card for $900, can play all but a handful of notoriously machine intensive games on high settings with ease. I got it for a good $150 less on Black Friday if you're willing to wait till then.

EDIT: There's also a similar one on Lenovo's site that has the same specs but uses an i5 processor for $650.

^ Looks really good. Seconding that suggestion.

Also, if you decide to search for more stuff that looks potentially good, steer clear from AMD processors if you wish to hold the laptop in your lap without accompanying first-degree burns and aren't interested in using your computer as a food heater.

  • If you can deal with the fact that text and other things will be small, a lenovo Y580 with the 1080p screen. It should be able to handle most games you throw at it. I got mine last Friday and I love it, it can run borderlands 2 at I'm going to say medium high settings, 1280x800 resolution at around 60 fps.

Do we have a music dump thread? Something's telling me that we do, but it probably got buried somewhere.
