Why not, I wouldn't mind that.

  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!

    >prefer the anime cover, but it's just kinda generic and bland.

Yeah, it's a consistent problem with the covers. They just tend to have Holo standing there and very rarely doing anything interesting.

The manga has more interesting covers but is significantly more porny.

  • You can change. You can.

    Sorry to hear that, Icalasari.

And you should have punched him Milos. Either that or just show him that there's such a thing as variety when it comes to music

yannow what I really missed from actually interacting with people? Girls playing with my hair. :3

  • Creature - Florida Dragon Turtle Human

Want to gift someone this, as a wedding gift.  But it's not currently available in blu-ray format.

Recipient has a PS3 and a pretty big screen, so he and his soon-to-be spouse would actually benefit from having a BD.

Thinking about whether I should wait, or ask the (other) friend who recommended me this documentary to suggest me another one, or just get them a different gift.  Thing is, all the other gifts are cookware of some sort (except some towels and a suitcase).

Ironically, this need to buy a BD release comes a few months after my flaming BDs as useless.

Only not because I’m not that smart.

Heh, it actually did lead to a fairly long discussion about music between the two of us, and I was trying to convince him that what I'm listening to actually has some value. To no avail, though, for some reason he's sure that it makes you sad and that music isn't supposed to make you sad.

  • Meh, his attitude makes me sad.

Next week is fresher week again, this year I'm crew instead of mentoring. More time to spend at the frat's program, night guard at the sleeping hall for sadistic wakey-wakey antics and best of all, a crew cabin with free booze the entire week just around the corner from the frat's building. Borderline alcoholism has never been this easy.

  • One foot in front of the other, every day.

    Just saw TDKR.

    Bane is best villain.

  • You can change. You can.

    ew.

honestly, I was just reflecting about that last night (Yesterday was Bat-Thoughts Night see) and I figured what bothered me about TDKR. Well besides lotsa things. (To get that out of the way, I still think it's a good movie. It's just that it's the weakest Nolan movie)

And it was that Bane's plot's just a lazy rehash of Knightfall + Ra's own plot. Normally I don't mind this in adaptations by virtue of them often being based on these stories but Nolan had set an implicity high bar by not relying so much on the comics when it came to plotting. The Dark Knight's just as good a Joker story as The Man Who Laughs was and it's precisely because it's Nolan giving it his personal touches. Batman Begins qualifies similarly for Ra's. But Bane gets shafted by virtue of not getting a plan or story of his own according to Nolan.

Maybe it was intentional and supposed to represent how much about Bane's basically Bruce's mistakes catching up to him but it does feel unsavory to me, I dunno.

Either way that voice. Tis magnificent.

Only when there are subs though. But still.

    Magnificent.

Anyway speaking of comics, I have a shitton to read but no idea of how to cull the queue :(

downloading all of the Avengers and Thor comics sounds like a bad idea now. ._.

  • One foot in front of the other, every day.

What I liked about Bane was less his plot and more his overall character. Despite the mask, he had a kind voice and kind eyes. He had erudite tastes, great intelligence and provided the illusion of gentleness at times. But he was also a professional mercenary, trained by the League of Shadows, and Batman had never faced anything like it. Before, it was a psychologist gone awry and a man who encapsulated perfect madness -- but not a military professional trained in the same methods as Batman himself. This isn't the criminal cowardice Batman is based upon, who his fear tactics work against, but something much more like himself. The Nolan films ended on a mirror match, which seems appropriate.

It wasn't as good as TDK, though.

Last I checked, Ra's Al Ghul was a thing that happened.

ETA: I'unno. Part of me feels that Bane was a really cool villain to end the whole thing but I also feel that if what they wanted was a mirror match, then I can't think of anyone better than Ra's.

Then again Ra's is one of my personal favourites.

    just

    look at that goatee

how can you not love that goatee

  • a little muffled

I think Ra's was the villain to exactly the extent a dead guy could be, really.

I also have a manboner for Liam Neeson so

  • You can change. You can.

    as opposed to girlboners?

I think Ra's was the villain to exactly the extent a dead guy could be, really.

yeah but that's more because of their choice to kill Ra's rather than because of what Ra's could be or do.

  • a little muffled

Even if he'd survived the first movie, I'd feel like they wouldn't want to reuse a villain like that. I'm sure he'd have been in it but they'd come up with some excuse to have him not be very prominent.

    You can change. You can.

oh nono. That's not what I meant.

Honestly if it was my trilogy, I wouldn't have used Ra's from the get-go but for the finale.

Then again my idea for Batman Begins wouldn't have involved the Scarecrow or Ra's but simply a noirish and grounded* story involving Batman, Gordon, Selina and John Blake growing into their future roles.

and then the dark knight would happen

and after that the League of Shadows arrives and shit would explode

*: as grounded as a story about a man dressed as a bat can be of course

  • a little muffled

Yeah, I get that, but from what I've heard Nolan wasn't planning TDKR at all when he did Begins but rather focusing on making the movie he was making a good story without really thinking about the sequels. Which is a reasonable enough philosophy I think.

  • You can change. You can.

Oh I understand that but I still think that Batman Begins, while awesome, could have used a much tighter focus on Bruce. As it is, the characterization sort of meanders and drifts in favour of the villains. Which I can accept in later movies where the villains are a big focus because they are often used to say things about Batman himself but in Begins it doesn't really feel like that except when Ra's is around (Which is not as often as you'd think)

Yeah, fair enough, I can see that,

I think it is a little weird that the one that comes the closest to being a "traditional" Batman story is the middle one.

  • You can change. You can.

Nah the third one's the most Batman-y (Ending notwithstanding of course)

You have the cool toys, the quips, the over-the-top action and plots, and the somewhat silly-yet-cool aesthetic (See, Catwoman)

Honestly I love that TDKR's more of a Batman story than the other two (Which were more like "What if Batman was real?" stuff) even if it's still somewhat flawed here and there. Especially in the Third Act, which manages to play all the emotional notes right but fails at the actual plot ones.

  • a little muffled

I disagree.  Batman himself was barely in the movie for long stretches, and the plot felt too "epic" and well...like something that should be in The Avengers. You might have a different opinion (and truth be told you know Batman better than I do) but it really felt like in this movie far moreso than the other two you could replace Batman with Generic Action Hero without having to change all that much.

  • You can change. You can.

Batman tends to be much more Avengers-y in terms of scale than people think.

One of the great things about the character is that he can do action, noir, mystic shit, etc etc because he's the goddamn batman.

    a little muffled

I don't have a problem with there being big epic stuff, but I feel like it should be more like Begins where there's big epic stuff at the climax but before that there's an hour of Batman punching petty criminals and stuff.
