habitually posting actual, honest-to-god child porn is somehow not creepy? Yes, I know it's only /b/. That doesn't matter.
Similarly, one should never go to Reddit because it too, is full of people that could be generically termed "creepy" if the words "stalker", "paedophile", "blithering idiot", etc. did not exist. There was a huge fiasco about r/jailbait awhile ago.
For that matter, you might as well stay away from the internet in general.
And, really, it's probably best if you just avoid interacting with people.
Seriously?
Well, I go on 4chan and so far I've found it a pretty fun place.
And how does it not matter?
Yeah, the forum caught on to Redditbomb back when it happened. And that's the same reason why I just can't really accept that the site still exists. Or at least, that it exists with seemingly so few people being aware of what happened or caring that this was going on on their beloved site.
I only visited /b/, like, once, and I don't recall seeing any child porn that time. It was still weird and gross enough that I never went back, but still. But I could live without 4chan, too, especially now that I've broken that bad habit of visiting /adv/ when I'm feeling depressed.
Generally speaking, the bigger a site is, the more likely it is to have a high concentration of people who will personally annoy you, regardless of what kind of person annoys you.
That is why I stick to smaller sites anymore. Because it's rarely worth the trouble.
Seriously.
Well, if that's how you feel about the place I doubt I can change your mind. But I'd never go there, is all I'm saying.
It's kind of hard to explain without me being preachy. Suffice it to say, I'd just be really uncomfortable.
The only thing I recall seeing on /b/ were neckbeards/shitty copypastas everywhere.
Honestly? That alone would be reason enough for me to avoid it.
The copypastas that is.
I mean goddammit I don't give a shit about your sick shared sexual fantasies.
God, this reminds me of pre-December 2011 /vp/...
Solution: Find a better site.
Other solution: avoid /b/.
Why let a few easily avoidable assholes ruin the site for you?
Forzare's story earlier on this page is why I never watch Marble Hornets at night. Ever.
Well, this was an interesting afternoon. I had to go through three stores before eventually finding a copy of Dark Souls, bikers who bike against traffic do nothing to assuage my irrational hatred of bikers, and I'm officially uncomfortable being seen with my current haircut.
On the plus side, you have Dark Souls now.
But they do make it more rational.
Oh, man, they still sell Slap Chop via commercials? Vince Offer is still hilarious, though.
And for only $30.
Well, that's one way to look at it.
Aaaaaand with one phone call I go from being in a decent mood to wanting to throw my computer across the room.
"Yes, I know it's one board. I'll condemn all the boards though."
Ahem. Anyway.
4Chan is a site on the web where anonymity is encouraged, almost required. It has tens of millions of unique visitors a month. You're going to get a lot of assholes and idiots on a site like that, full stop.
Most boards have their own social etiquettes, though, designed to stop them falling into /b/'s mentality. In fact, phrases like 'Go back to /b/' and 'This place is resembling /b/ right now' are often used as derogatory terms.
It's also worth noting that like... every board except /b/ has a 'No child pornography' rule, and it's pretty well enforced. And the feds (in America, at least) browse the board, too. At least one person has been arrested because of stuff they posted on the site.
Er... so does /b/, and yes they do enforce it.
Well, it's not enforced often enough there.
I don't think it's not enforced, it's more than, as you said, /b/ has a fuckton of traffic, and I don't how many mods can keep track of it.
I've seen some exceedingly intelligent and creative posts and threads on 4chan. For instance, I recall one thread on /tg/ that used standard fantasy necromancy rules to create a medieval internet (in theory). There's certainly a tendency towards very forward behaviour, but that's often in service of a task or helping others. In fact, one of the great things about 4chan is that if you give the impression you're worth helping (not difficult), it's very easy to get people to post resources, experiences and advice on the matter (as long as it falls within the topic of the board).
Keep in mind that people post anonymously, so it's not like these people think they're helping out a friend or anything. They're just posting what they have 'cause why not? 4chan has a particularly bad reputation now for stuff that mostly went down around 2007 or so. It's a pretty decent place, all said, and one mostly haunted by the stereotypes of days past (and a minority of posters determined to prove those stereotypes right).
On the other hand, if you do pretty much anything that posters don't like, get prepared for a whole bunch of posts along the lines of 'get out' or 'go kill yourself'.
And that's not helped by the userbases of each board not being a hivemind, so there's different standards among different people- so even if you do something that's generally considered acceptable on a board, you still might end up being told to get out by a minority of posters who are annoyed.
And for every thread about medieval internets, there's a thread on rape factories. (Well, I'm sure the ratio isn't 1:1, but there's certainly enough creepy threads that I feel they're worth mentioning.)
I remember a thread in /vp/ proposing an idea.
The idea was to arrange all of the types into elemental (Fire, Water, Grass, etc...), physical (Normal, Fighting, Dragon) and mental (Psychic, Ghost, Dark) FOR FLAVOR PURPOSES ONLY.
Then these idiots started wrecking the discussion with OMG ARE U KIDDING ME THATS A TERRIBLE IDEA even though he SPECIFICALLY stated in the OP that it was FOR FLAVOR PURPOSES and would not change the gameplay in any way.
This is good. The more hostile the atmosphere the more relaxing it is to read. Seriously. Reading threads on 4chan is usually a decent way to make myself feel better, mostly since it's hard to take all the raeg seriously (and, really, they usually aren't all that serious anyway). So whenever someone gets jumped on for accidentally letting it slip that he uses VLC (or, more likely, does it on purpose) instead of some other video player or something equally trivial... I dunno, it's reasonably enjoyable to me.
So I watched TDKR. It's...uh. Well I have mixed feelings about the production stuff (Talia and Bane being white was just eugh. Although I can live without another drug addicted Latino luchador really. And as for Talia...well. I also can do without another arab terrorist) but the story's really good. The ending's a bit tacky and it sorta works in some places but it's uneven in others. But if any movie supports my argument about how Nolan's Batmovies are about Gotham and its relationship with Batman, it's this one.
I did love that Nolan did exercise some restraint in some important bits, like the scene where Bane and Bruce fight for the first time and he does the back breaking move. Holy shit that scene was fuckawesome.
The only serious complaints I can raise are that the movie had some bad pacing at first (But then again set ups and payoffs) and the fact that a lot of the aesthetics and presentation were uneven. Bane's voice was probably the funniest thing I'll ever hear. But Hardy still manages to appear as a threat. How? Tis a mystery.
fuck you bane's voice was god tier
god-tier humor :>
