    Meanwhile in Poland: a farmer wasn't paying his debts, so debt collector guy showed up and claimed a tractor belonging to his neighbour, then immediately sold it for less than a half of its market value. While we're at it, the sum was like three times the amount of debt the first one accumulated in the first place. The debt collector guy suddenly fell gravely ill (i.e. won't show up at court to explain himself pretending it's health reasons) the first moment the media began to make a fuss about it. The second farmer is now facing the prospect of having to give back all the loan money he borrowed to buy the tractor, since he got it through a government program that required him not to dispose of the machine in a set amount of time, and since it was taken from him, he obviously doesn't have it now. Fun, eh?

    More a playmate then a friend, really. We have 300 or so who have left towards the caliphate, but I'm probably retroactively seeing it as logical that he turned out that way while we have thousands of muslim kids with the same personality who don't end up on a foreign front. 

    Witnessed some pretty bad cases of racism-induced angst over the years. A few teens who tried to nick my Pokémon cards while expounding sob stories about how they were poor and their moms so hyperreligious they were not allowed to have them, once went flyering with a kid who tried to ensure me he was one of the good Moroccans out of nowhere, and the bogstandard youths on bikes who hurl hilariously impotent 'slurs'(cheesehead) at any white passerby and try to kick you off when they pass you by cycling. Integration takes time, I suppose.

    I dunno, mainstream media seem pretty interested over here. You have a few sites and one paper with your bogstandard right-wing tabloid scares and a paper with fluffy leftie paeans, but most of them have at least a few Middle-Eastern folks on staff who also write about their own pieces and perspectives. Ditto with MPs of political parties apart from the Christian ones and the far-right one. Of course, it sometimes has a token feel about it, and the kebabs we see highlighted probably offer relatively skewed perspectives(what voices do we not get to hear?) and are often used as a club to slap the non-succes stories with.

    Gophered at brownie convention today on 2 hours of sleep. A glittery fedora in the colours of the German flag was the best fashion disaster of the whole thing, seeing toddlers dance to a band cover of this shit was hilarious: , but the highlight was a girl who had a question for the livestreamed Libman on what she thought of the controversy over Derpy(she probably snuck this past the staffer by formulating it cleverly) and watching her freeze up a bit before ending with a very neutral 'you should listen to the feelings of people who feel hurt'. Yes, yes, it's very tame for the normal level of con drama, but otherwise it would probably have flipped into annoying since I was physically there myself.

    Well there's a pretty specific reason that they cite, and that it's that decomposing food gives off methane, which is a greenhouse gas.

    That said, I'd argue that the reason of cost is more practical.  Regardless of the reason, though, it's still better to be more efficient with food.

    A huge problem is getting exactly what you need to or want to eat is practically impossible nowadays for most people (who shop in supermarkets) and basically there is nothing that can be done on a consumer level that isn't like... starting/donating to a soup kitchen or whatever.

    Recently been thinking, in part it's kind of an ugly unexpected consequence of sanitary laws. A supermarket or a restaurant has to have foodstuffs in advance, and there aren't many "unwasteful" ways of getting rid of them once they're past the best before date.

    That said, it still doesn't stop many of them. "Four lives of a chicken", heh heh.
