Good Job Wicked
Whether or not that's Really Bad depends on how long the paper has to be, I think. That's a good five days to work on it, so it's not as if you've doomed yourself, in any case, though.
If it makes you feel any better, I've had to ask for a deadline extension because I simply could not figure out how to start/write a paper that's worth 35% of my grade in the relevant class, and I didn't realize how stumped I was in time to ask anyone for help, so I just kinda caved in on myself Monday night. It's due tomorrow, and while I'm only partway through my first draft, I think I can pull it off, especially since I know that this teacher likes my writing.
^^^Do it all in one day, like I did with my final essay!
Or do half of it at three-four in the morning, like me! Sleep is for the weak!
For bonus points, use so many references that it takes a half hour just to put them all into EasyBib!
College has completely wrecked me, and I know that things aren't going to get better from here on out, since I have to start taking Spanish again next semester.
Four hours, Wicked?
Pffft, you're such an amateur. Unless it was a typo, and you meant to say "days".
Just half? You mean you don't start your papers at three in the morning the day they're due?
Oh! Oh! Can I help? Can I help? When does your next semester start?
The 13th of January, I think.
I'll keep this in mind, but at the same time, both of my parents are also fluent Spanish speakers, and this could be a good excuse to keep in touch with them, as well.
¿Puedo ayudar también?¿Sí que Sí?
It begs the question, why are you not a fluent, or at least halfway decent speaker.
Ahh, then I wouldn't be able to help very much early on, then.
While we're on the topic, I recently started Duolingo. It has some annoyances here and there, but it's been pretty nice so far.
I think it's partly to do with one of my doctors saying that my parents' bilingual tendencies were confusing me when I was a kid -- I flat-out stopped speaking for a while, and the doctor seemed to think this might be the cause -- and they were told not to try to teach me both languages at once. (I don't know either, man. This seems to run counter to what we know about kids' abilities to learn languages) After that, I think it could just be that I wasn't taught the language very well in school. And, ironically enough, I don't like the sound of the language, having worked with it for at least a little while.
BULLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLSHIT! Anyhow, it seems kinda sucky for the children to not learn as many langauges as they possible can given their circumstances. But eh.
I wish I had been raised like that, my mother knows (and knew) French, German and some English.
In the vein of terrible Gangnam Style parodies:
Stormtroper,
I've been getting lots of attention IRL whenever the fact that I know English is brought up. It's very awkward.
If you are okay with me asking, is there any specific reason for that?
In any event, I do think it is pretty excellent that people can know so many languages. Hearing people talk about being fluent in two, let alone three or four languages is kind of humbling to me. I guess part of that is just inherent language skill, but it impresses me nonetheless. Then again, I guess that for people who are that skilled it does not seem like as big a deal or something.
Anyway, on a somewhat related note, there is this.
Because then they'll ask how I learned and then I have to work around saying that I learned by being a huge video game/internet geek.
Maybe I'm too reserved about that?
What's your native tongue?
Spanish.
That was my godmother's reason for not teaching me Japanese
The woman that reads the "This video has been deleted" message in Nico Nico now sounds like she's holding back laughter. It's really insulting.
t. offended man
Stormtroper is venezuelan. And silly. Most of my practical applications and ways I reinforced my reading comprehension skills was being the go-to translator of the videogames my friends played.

Nah, that actually makes a lot of sense to me. I mean, I feel like there are plenty of situations where you would rather hide your power level or whatever instead of risk being pegged as a certain type of person based on your interests.
I guess one option would be to say something like you picked it up from liking English-speaking culture. You know your situation better than I do though and that might just raise further questions that would be awkward to answer.
In regards to the power level thing, I think it pays to be sensitive to others' interests and to invite polite mockery of your own. That might seem a bit "unfair", but it's socially appreciated in general, and if you approach your power level with humour, most people won't think any less of you for it. I do this with my interests a lot in social settings and it provides a lot of material for well-humoured bickering and general arsing around.
Of course, I understand why many would be tentative about revealing such things. If you ever wanted to, though, I think that's the way to go about it.
Eh, most of my basic knowledge of English comes from playing lots of vidya as a kid, then looking in the dictionary to see what does X mean. Nothing shameful about that.
This is like the second time I've brought it up here, the first one being the first thread I posted under this handle...
Glorious:
Also, mild snow. Winter has come.
Makes me wanna drive a Volkswagen.
If they'd sell consumer versions of the Death Star, I would want one too.
