Been getting back into exercise and feel a lot better. Wasn't able to maintain my exercise routine because of medication but now I can start easing back into it. Not ready to go out on a full-length walk, but I've been using my trampoline/sit-ups.
When you strip away all the monster costumes and real estate scams, what do the bad guys have in common? They are adults who lie to children(well technically they lie to everybody, but that element matters because our focus characters are children). Taking that theme and running with it loudly and proudly gave Mystery Inc some serious narrative and emotional depth and have us the best version of Scooby Doo yet.
I haven't seen much of it, but I agree with the implication that lying about significant things to children (or those who otherwise haven't completed the development of essential critical thinking skills) is probably among the worst acts of social manipulation out there and is heavily ignored by society at large.
13 and a half hours of sleep was wonderful.
Until I got woken up (out of a dream, nonetheless - I was dreaming about the Trespasser Let's Play, for some reason, and I got the joy of having the LPer in the dream go "Jesus!" in response just before I woke up) by a text message. At least it wasn't Nova this time.
Well, our Theory of Law textbook has a chapter on avatars in MMO games as subjects of law. It's as bizarrely interesting and ridiculously spergy as you'd expect it to be.
Lucky you.
I still have one major assignment, two smaller assignments, and two final exams.
^^ What does it say about their role in legal affairs?
^^^ 3 hours of sleep plus napping on public transportation plus nodding off during a presentation is horrible.
I'm a very, very lazy man, so I'll just copy/paste what I had said about it on BTL.
There's an idea that avatars, since they have the ability to:
1. own stuff (have an inventory)
2. make acts of law (trading, maybe gaining rewards from quests?)
3. answer for deeds that are against the law (breaking rules of the game or rules in the game)
which are all qualities that define a subject of law, are subjects of law themselves, in virtual reality as well as actual reality, the latter since actions of game avatars can have RL legal consequences.
There are four theories concerning that idea.
The theory of representation claims that the player is effectively a legal representative for his avatar. The professor refutes that theory as implausible, since the player and the avatar operate under completely different legal systems and thus the player cannot represent the avatar, and presents three alternatives.
The theory of fiction claims that an avatar is a subject of law, although simply an ostensible and artificial one. The theory of negation claims that avatars can't be subjects of law as the only subjects of law can be natural persons and legal persons. The theory of reality gives full lawful subjectivity to the avatar.
The book claims that, at this moment, the theory of fiction is the most acceptable, but that the theory of reality will probably previal with the increased development and importance of online games.
@ Alex: The first Fairly Odd Parents movie had the theme of Timmy's parents constantly lying to him, and those lies ended up being what got Vicky as his babysitter and in turn, got him his fairies.
Were they weak to iro--*promptly booted from the stage*
Lost the Civ campaign just four turns before I would've won.
Just watched Tokyo Godfathers with the anime club. I really, really enjoyed it. I think One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest probably still beats it out for my favorite movie, but this comes pretty close.
I hope my anime club here watches Tokyo Godfathers on Friday.
I found out about it from my anime club at my previous school, which showed it at Christmastime too.
The Georgia Tech anime club has a very special Christmas showing.
Sadly, I am sworn to secrecy.
^ This just in, the Georgia Tech anime club watches Boku no Pico for Christmas.
Also, this is their dark secret: Behold, the deity they worship!
no
what
Our anime club has this secret box that only the exec board is allowed to see inside.
Also, the President must keep the, not a THE, bag of rice. And must pass on the bag of rice to the next president.
Yeah...
Are y'all's anime clubs trying to become the successor to the Skull and Bones Society?
That's pretty much what I said.
It's here. And we still don't know who Benedict Cumberbatch is here.
>watch latest AT episode
>huge Take That against shippers
This cartoon speaks to me, brother.
> giving a damn
I know I said this before, but y'know.
>implying that posting my opinion on a chat forum is unwarranted
Or were you talking about the shipping stuff?
Need to break this habit.
^^ The shipping stuff.
I mean, I am for instance a fan of Arthurian folklore, and for many years now the Guinevere/Lancelot ship has been canon. Sometimes the only recourse is to let that shit be.
The ep itself was just one big laugh at the shippers' expense, hence my usage of "Take That".
The plot was basically Magic Man giving Finn a set of magic miniatures comprised of pretty much every character in the show to play with. Finn naturally starts shipping his characters recklessly, and the real amusement of the episode comes when the consequences of his actions become readily apparent.
For instance, at one point Finn ships toy-himself with toy-Rainicorn. Naturally toy-Jake gets mad and upset about it, which in turn upsets Real Finn.
Later, Real Finn ships toy-Finn with toy-Flame Princess on a whim. This has adverse effects on toy-Finn and toy-Rainicorn's relationship. Finn also ships toy-Finn with toy-PB, which eventually creates an utter clusterfuck.
Also there was a hella sweet masturbation joke.
Bastion has an image macro for this very occasion, and suddenly I am sad that I never saved it.
Come on guys, it was pretty funny.
Unfortunately (though for obvious reasons) there were no PB/Marcy references.
I haven't seen the episode, but you are aware that I am a big (though not dedicated at all) shipper, yes?
Uh...
no, I wasn't aware of that at all.
In fairness, the episode was all in good fun.
