I don't know if it's because my dudes are cacti people, but I have way more amber than I know what to do with (besides selling), also I feel assigning citizens as something besides farmers, lumberjacks, professors or artisanship isn't worth it outside of specific needs. At 50s citizens entertainers aren't worth it either but with greater population presumably they'll become useful.
Edit: Actually, something I did made it so that the others besides bankers became useful.
Edit edit: I mean the others besides bankers.
Nah, for the longest time my dudes were in a perpetual state of sadness.
Things did change when I switched to a republic, then changed back when I switched to socialism then corporatocracy, then changed to a republic again because I needed $, which I then learned was a huge mistake because (at least at that point) the biggest bottleneck by a long shot is craftmanship, specially sheet metals for wardenclyffes.
Edit: Actually, I can tell that at some point in the near future Technocracy will become the adequate government, but for now I'll stay in my unending quest for having enough sheet metals.
Also, I've probably spent more time than I should have on this.
Also, look for Easter eggs.
By the way, did you try raiding in this game? Didn't feel worthy of bother.
I tried raiding once during the early civilized era (or whatever it's called when you stop being a single organism), I got more or less the equivalent of ten seconds of worth production. Never tried it again, although I recently got into the habit of doing espionage operations on my neighbors and will attempt to lay siege on one of them sometime soon.
Edit: "Your army was defeated. 26 soldiers died in the conflict.", I guess 10.6% advantage is too little?
Edit edit: Accidentally pressed Attack and lost five more soldiers for free plus lost some more relation %. That said soldiers replace themselves easily so maybe it's not a big deal?
Edit edit edit: After a couple more tries I succeeded at laying siege on one of my neighbors, but not with enough surviving soldiers to take the city. That said, 47.5k copper is pretty good. There is a "Warmonger" penalty but apparently it goes away quite quickly.
This is during the early space at early 200s population with cacti (which have faster recovery), presumably it didn't always work out this way but I should've been doing it since much earlier.
The real drawback is that it's kind of annoying to use, having to check that you aren't sending wounded soldiers to war, that you aren't wasting away materials due to being at the maximum, and that since you'll be inputting commands very often it's not conductive to playing AFK. If there is a drawback to having your neighbors revile you, I don't know it, all I see is low-risk high-reward.
Relatedly: It annoys me when I have to juggle around crates/containers to have enough maximum materials for something.
It's like, I feel like the amount of stuff is not so much a problem as storage space. You can't build that one thing because you don't have the cap high enough. Especially as you need to expand storage space to be able to expand storage space, etc.
I'm at 160 Ents, in Early Space too.
Also, I'm dumping steel in railroads because I don't really have better use for it at the moment.
Come to think of it, it's surprising the game even works.
Note to self: Do not disable Space Stations just to save on Helium, at least until actually having somewhere to store them. (Edit: Elerium, that is.)

I can't help but notice that there are "trap" resources, stuff that you may think you are supposed to struggle to get but that by advancing in technology you can skip that and find a better way to get them. So far I know (gameplay-spoilers?):
Helium-3 before reaching Saguaro.
Elerium storage before reaching Thorn.
The Asteroid Belt is a pain to mine, if it weren't the only way I currently have to obtain Elerium it'd be useless. I hate Elerium.
It took ages but I finally found something to spend all that Neutronium, it stood there sitting at the cap for ages with wasted positive generation rate until I became able to make Nano Tubes out of it.
Edit: Also, I'm sitting at level 20 Monolith, level 15 Supercollider, level 12 Railway, and level 0 Stock Exchange. Why are that thing's requirements so absurd. (Perhaps it's intended for people keeping the game running 24/7 getting manufacturing materials?)
I actually thought Stock Exchange is one of the easier to get, at least after I got a nice build-up of bricks and wrought iron. Perhaps you spent them a lot more, which may be related to my tendency to buid stuff only if I can manage to raise the level to a "nice" "regular" number. Meaning, even or five at the low end, and multiples of five later on.
At the moment I'm heavily struggling with raising the knowledge cap.
I think the names change with the species. Mine is Ent, so the names are Yavanna and Branch.
One day, I will be doing something better with my time. (Note to self: yeah, as if.)

I expected these things to be, you know, comfortable.
In other stuff:

A mix of WRPGs and JRPGs. Including most of XSEED's catalogue, for what it's worth (convenient link to that). That includes stuff like Corpse Party (which I noticed has had a significantly cheaper price this year than before). (And Gurumin too, but not NISA- or Aksys-published Falcom stuff.) Meanwhile, for some reason, Idea Factory isn't participating, but oh well.
Also various other things are on sale in other sale events, including the Yakuza games in a SEGA Publisher Sale, and Horizon Zero Dawn in an Adventure sale, and more you can find from the main page.
