Yeah, it wouldn't be very cost-productive to make an alpha with the response they got.
It had something to do with a dev room chat which people weren't aware of. That's how they gauged interest, apparently. I dunno.
I think only about 4,000 people participated in that.
Oh yeah. Not enough people participated in that, even though most of the interested party weren't aware of it/actively participating in it. Though I believe the alpha wasn't released because they believed it was a shitty product, and there was no way they could make a good game out of that. Still, I have no idea what compelled Capcom to even consider making a MML3 in the first place.
The only explanation I can think of that makes any sense is that a lot of their developers really wanted to.
Started The Walking Dead.
I haven't played a game quite like this in some time. And that's definitely a compliment.
????
But Megaman Legends isn't a Megaman game.
Kinda like Battle Network isn't a a Megaman game. They're two unique games with a brand name stickered on to sell more.
Was given Legends of Grimrock today. Been playing it.
It's a sweet game, but all things considered, midnight is not the right time to play it.
Just got Rayman Origins. Pretty sweet game, very fun with co-op.
I recently started playing Ys: the Oath in Felghana.
It's a hard game, but somehow it's designed right, so that I feel that I need to really put in some effort to get through an area (with lots of caution, and a little bit of healing-herb grinding sometimes), and I also get a sense of accomplishment when I achieve something, such as getting through a dungeon or beating a boss.
Was reading up the comments about lives, checkpoints, saves, and game overs, and in light of Ys Oath I think I'll add my two cents.
Ys Oath has save points at the beginning of every dungeon, and then just before every boss. At least under normal difficulty, the game is hard enough that when you go into a dungeon, you'd better be careful--i.e. you can't just go in guns blazing and reuse the same tactic and expect to survive. When you die/get a game over, you can respawn back at the last place you saved. I've played through three dungeons, and with the exception of the third, bringing you back to the save point at the beginning of the dungeon also gives you the option to go back to town and upgrade your equipment, which is another good thing.
Overall, I think it's paced well enough that the game's difficulty--making you be careful when fighting enemies, learn their patterns and how to avoid/avert them, and not take risks of being too bullish--is well served by this system.
As for bosses, yes, there's a save point right before them (in case you want to go change your equipment or grind some more), but if you die while fighting a boss, the game lets you respawn at what's effectively a savestate right as you enter the boss chamber.
IIRC Capcom wanted to make MML3 because Inafking wanted to do it. He likes the Legends series, I think.
Also, Battle Network is a legitimately fun series.
One thing that bugs me about Ys is that it's possible to get into the second boss fight without knowing that you can have access to a Ruby at that point, leading to the fight becoming far longer than it needs to be.
Wait, you can?
I only got my ruby later.
It was a really really long slog of a battle...until I went back out and bought new sword and armor and then it became a piece of cake. Even without any rubies.
Those are not exactly the words I would use to describe it...
The earlier BN games were good. (Although 1 definitely had its flaws)
I played the first game and it's pretty fun.
I wouldn't say they are bad or anything but "Legitimately fun" is one of those things that...doesn't seem to make much sense as a statement about something.
By that I mean as opposed to "it's fun only because I'm a fan of the series".
If anything, Megaman fans are less likely to think it's fun, considering how little anything in the game resembles anything Megaman-related.
The early BN games are the only Megaman games I've played. I thought they were pretty awesome at the time, though I dunno how they'd hold up for me today.
Megaman BN 3 is the greatest in the series (becuz I haven't played any other).
But X1 is the best game with the word "Megaman" plastered on, even if I am comparing apples to oranges.
Yeah but who even plays Megaman for the plot.
Well besides Zero.
Zero had a neat plot.
Zero's plot didn't really seem to be significantly better than any X game's plot. It just kind of had a cooler setting and art direction.
And a better character arc, which is really the key difference between the two.
I never did like the prefight dialogues in X4 and X5. Some of these mavericks had backstories briefly alluded to and stuff, but I think if there were fewer bosses, we might actually care. But these bosses are so numerous, it just becomes filler. Gimmie my bossfight and weapon, man.
the best part is that if lee told clementine to stay in the house
she'd stay in the fucking house
Seriously though, yeah, I love the Walking Dead game. It has a real lack of polish, but I'd say it's better than the show at least.
The Walking Dead is certainly the only adventure game I've enjoyed in many years, which is cool to me.
