Let's look at some political cartoons! Kill me
Comments
These cartoonists are disappointingly interchangeable. No wit, no subtlety, no style.
Eric Allie (the one with the bayonets in the lady's back) is good sometimes, but he's a conservative so you get stuff like "Democrats are the real sexists for daring to presume that women want birth control." Clay Bennet, posted above, is also fairly good, as is Matt Bors, though they both sometimes suffer from a tendency to overexplain their joke or use too many labels.
I wanna see their faces when they find out that the Conservatives in Germany were the first party to offer state funded healthcare
German conservatives are probably to the left of the Democratic Party.
Why do they all draw Obama with such a thin head? I know it's a caricature, but he looks nothing like that. Are they just too lazy to do normally-shaped heads?
Only Ramirez does that. It goes to show how much of a terrible cartoonist he is, even without the reprehensible opinions, because he can't do caricature for shit. The most prominent feature of Obama's face is his chin, so what does Ramirez draw? An Obama with virtually no chin. And since his cartoons are often in black and white for newspaper syndication, there are times (such as the Pope cartoon above) where it's completely impossible to find Obama.
Bismarch is left of the modern Democratic party?
If they helped institute universal health care, then yes.
Here's a hint: if people weren't making a fuss about it then Democrats wouldn't care about things like gay rights.
Fixed.
> "him"
Is there something I'm missing, or does this artist just put that little thought into what he writes?
That's clearly not an intersection, so having the right-turn-only and no-left-turn signs is nonsensical. In reality a sharp curve would be denoted by a yellow sign with a black arrow showing which way the road bends.
I know, I know, how Central Avenueish of me, but still.
Let's be fair, that entire charade was hideously overblown. Any number of deaths is tragic, but one has to remember that swine flu was actually considerably less serious than the regular flu season. Calling a level 6 worldwide pandemic over it was a pretty flagrant wolf-cry.
Still, you'd think he'd at least bother drawing a pig.
Is there something I'm missing, or does this artist just put that little thought into what he writes?
Yes (Mike Lester)
Yes, yes, continue harping on the "57 states" thing years after the fact. Because we all know conservativepoliticans never misspeak. Right, President Bush?
The last eight years never happened.
80% of Serbia thinks that swine flu was a conspiracy of sorts. I tend to agree. It really was strange that the number of deaths in countries where most of the people refused to take vaccines was minimal.
From flu or from complications? The latter would be obvious.
edit: Y2K too was kinda less than Skynet achieving sentience, so to say.
The unfortunate thing is that people in fact will speak against their own interests if they've never been through hardship.
"IJBM: This thread seems more about complaining about the right-wingers than about complaining about how political cartoons, of all stripes, pretty much always involve preaching to the choir."
Bit of false balance going there, unless you can show me lefty examples of discrimination that are just as prevalent.
Both combined.
Former doesn't have to mean malice... I don't like to think this way.
Actually, I'll hold off on Tood Rool and post the newest Ramirez.
1) Obama's eyes are open! Good job, Ramirez!
2) Why is the front of the gun blown up if it backfired?
3) Obama has nothing to do with Hilary Rosen. He actually defended working mothers and said that her attack was wrong. So naturally that means that all Democrats are misogynistic pigs, Obama is an uppity sexist and it's Republicans who are defending the rights of women. If anybody is wondering why they're defending stay-at-home moms, beyond the obvious "Let's make Democrats look bad," is that it's the only place where they want women. So now Republicans will get a free pass in the media even though Republicans in Wisconsin are introducing legislation to take away equal pay for women because "money is worth more to men" and oh by the way that whole birth control thing but don't worry everybody already forgot about that.
Why do they think Democrats hate rich people when they are rich people themselves? And correct me if I'm mistaken, but in the US, don't you need a certain level of income to become President? Aside from needing lots of money to compete of course.
^No you don't, all you need to be is a natural born citizen, have lived in the U.S. for 15 years, and be at least 35 years old. Money only comes in to pay for your campaign.
Well...legally, you don't. But yeah, you basically don't have any chance if you don't have a lot of money already.
^ It would be hilarious to see someone working a minimum wage job get elected as president through a campaign funded by a kickstarter
Yeah, it would. Good thing that'll never happen!
DEZ
NIGGUHZ
CAIN'T DRAW FUH SHIT!!
I could say the same about your typing skills at the moment Schitzo.
is there some reason you're copy-pasting political cartoons from SA
no
Bismarck hated actual socialists because he was a rich man and a German nationalist. The only reason he pushed through healthcare, unemployment benefits and pensions was there was a real threat of a Commie uprising
Hey @CountryPumpkin (and anyone else who posts images in this thread):
PLEASE LINK TO THE PICTURES INSTEAD OF POSTING THEM INLINE.
I am TIRED of having that first page take like three minutes to load completely--all the while twitching the scrolling of the text so that it's impossible for me to read anything but the last post on the page.
Seems to me that linking instead of posting the pictures would make the thread more or less unreadable.
Not really. SA already had the whole thread laid out pretty nicely.
Hunh. This was an SA thread. That would explain the style of presentation. Not that that's a bad thing; the way that the comic artists were introduced first is actually pretty informative.
I'm just disappointed nobody pulled in Dees. At least he's the entertaining kind of abhorrent and bugfuck insane.
Sorry for the lateness in Rallness (i'll do it eventually), here's a golden oldie from our ol pal Ramirez:

So kind of him to point out that the guy represents "MEDIA". Now I vaguely get his point rather than simply don't get his point.
In any case, saying "I did not hit her. It's not true. It's bullshit. I did not hit her. I did nawt!" isn't going to make the problem go away.
