^ The sub group is KITsubs.

Also, Ultras still are on TV, just that the only new content are the mini-episodes (there's a new one every week on YouTube, and it seems that, unlike Retsuden, each episode is still available once the next one gets uploaed). But, I guess that doesn't quite "count". Still, it's somewhat entertaining. The latest episode ended with Temperor-seijin and Tyrant appearing, which sorta makes since as a match-up. Also, Ultra viewers apparently will be treated to uh... this. I'm really hoping that's not really another upgrade form for Zero. In the context of Ultra Series, that combination of colors does not look heroic.

The next *actual* show for Ultra Series will be an update of Ultra Q. I don't know if anybody will sub that, considering that it's not going to be a super hero show.

  • There is love everywhere, I already know

    Thanks.

Anyways, the Zero episodes aren't easy to keep up with since I don't like, speak Japanese.

I saw that, it's probably one of those "Defeated some enemy and took his powers" things... or just a "Screw the Ultra legacy lets do this!" thing.

I think most toku subbers will be glad to see Ultra on TV again and might pick it up.

  • Zero Fight is about as close to mindless action as it gets, so it's no trouble for me. Plus, there are no entirely new characters, so I can tell which effect is because of whose powers, etc. But that would be a problem for less experienced viewers.

  • There is love everywhere, I already know

So this is why the Christmas ring exists...

Also, it occurs to me that if I were collecting wizard rings I'd never be able to get this one (or that nice chibi figure).

  • edited 2012-12-29 02:00:00

    That doesn't explain jack.

    Nor does it explain shit.

  • There is love everywhere, I already know

But the entire point of Wizards existence is to sell various products to the Japanese youth (and sometimes Japanese and non-Japanese nerds).

  • Not good enough!

There is love everywhere, I already know

There could always be a Japanese-only universe bible that explains it somehow.

Santa is totally a mage, y'know.

So as all I ever think about is Sentai or anime, it's time to analyze the casting for Kyoryuger!

I like everybody, nice balance of prettyboy and... normal actors, probably because there's a balance of guys since there's only one girl. I think I may have judged this show too soon, it looks pretty great, no super-wacky-fun-time-show (not that that would be bad, just that it's 90% more likely to be bad).

Latest Ultra Zero Fight. Temperor and Tyrant make a pretty impressive duo here, and Mephilas seems to be... up to... something. I have absolutely no clue what he's trying to achieve here, though.

Ultraman Retsuden's episode concludes the 1998 Tiga & Dyna movie. Despite the actual character of Tiga not really being in the movie (the Tiga in the movie is a manifestation of the light, Daigo doesn't even appear), it really does work as a Tiga movie, as it follows on an idea Tiga's series had, that being how the light of Ultraman exists within all humans. Tiga & Dyna is cheesy, and has moments that make it hard to take seriously, but I like that movie. Moreso now than I used to.

  • He who laments and can't let go of the past is forever doomed to solitude.

I finished Fourze. That was...wow. Really great show. Now on to OOO.

  • Latest Ultraman Retsuden has a new theme song, features the Shining Ultraman Zero form. Seems they'll be continuing the tradition of Ultramen having terrible-looking super modes. The episode is just a recap of Revenge of Belial and Killer the Beatstar, though the music is really damn cool. Next episode will be part 1 of Battles in Hyperspace or Doing an Inter-universe Crossover Without Throwing Away Any Sense of Continuity is Totally Possible.

  • edited 2013-01-11 15:23:01

So uh, Megamax was a more satisfying crossover movie than Let's Go KR. Continuity still doesn't actually work, but at least every Rider got to use a special attack instead of just throwing generic punches and kicks. There's a sense that these *are* the previous Riders, and not crowd-fillers with similar costumes. LGKR made most of the Riders feel more like the latter. I haven't seen the Fourze series, so the scene where the club help Gentaro fight a Mutamid mostly made me think "wow, a bunch of regular high school kids can't do very much in combat, huh?". Would the show itself prove me wrong there?

  • The Kamen Rider Club is basically the Scooby Gang. They do investigation, escorting of civilians, moral support, and piloting the giant robot.

They're not meant to directly contribute in a fight.

    ebin :-DD

    Yup.

Though Akibaranger was practically perfect, so I hope we get a new cast and an entirely new plot instead of messing with what was one of the best non-Sunday morning Toku shows ever.

Would the show itself prove me wrong there?

    Nope.

  • Do the club at least get a cool group theme song?

  • There is love everywhere, I already know

Love is Overdrive by JK or Ganbarre Hayabusa-kun Metal by Yuki probably count.

There is a Kamen Rider Club track on one of the soundtracks too, I think.

  • There is love everywhere, I already know

Okay, Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters just ended again, but of course there are five more episodes after this.

I'm glad they made such a big deal out of Christmas because it is important in this series and I'm glad to see how Escape's character arc ended. She's one of the best written toku villains I've ever seen.

After the end, two filler episodes (not filler exactly, but not endy either). I've only seen one and it was pretty great and funny too.

I just hope the show can still carry the momentum it's built up over the course of the last two cours and make this the best Sentai ending in all of history, because I've grown to love every single member of this team.

Also, Rika suddenly making lots of appearances and getting CGI RH-03 back? Did we get our budget back?

  • Ultra Zero Fight 2, episode 4: I'm guessing these Darkness Five guys are new characters, and not any previous Mephilas, Temperor, and so on returning for whatever reason. (although it's not like those guys can't return, as Ghost Rebirth had shown) It's almost strange to see Zero being outmatched when his opponents aren't something ludicrous like Hyper Zetton. Episode ends with Ultimate Force Zero jumping in to join the fight, after introducing themselves. Kinda feels like they're aping the Sentai style, but I don't really know. As a team, hese guys are closer to the DenLiner crew than anything else in tokusatsu that I can think of.

  • Also, Ultraman Retsuden episode 81 - Tiga, Dyna & Gaia: Battle in Hyperspace. For some reason, it's presented by Gamu (Ultraman Gaia's human side) instead of Zero like usual. Eh, any reason to bring an old actor back, I guess. I don't have as clear a memory of this movie compared to other Ultra films, so a chopped up rerun is kinda helpful.

Battle in Hyperspace has an interesting concept. The setting is (something resembling) the real world, and the story follows a kid who's a fanboy of Ultraman Gaia, who uses a magic wish ball to bring his TV hero into his world. There's also this "head bully" guy who is really a huuuuuge nerd. About as big of a kaiju fanboy as Oki from Ultra Galaxy. Best I can compare this with would be... Akibaranger, and this is a movie from the late '90s! It's amusing to see Gamu getting swarmed by TV-viewing children, and seeing merchandise related to himself in a toy store. Wonder if discovering he's actually a TV character gave him an existential crisis.

  • There is love everywhere, I already know

    I guess they're done filming Go-Busters.

    D:

This should not hurt as much as it does.

  • He who laments and can't let go of the past is forever doomed to solitude.

    I just marathoned OOO... GAMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEL!

  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!

So folks, is Dekaranger worth watching for any reason besides Jasmine being hot?

  • So hey, I finally finished Ryuki. Now I gotta finish My-HiME and watch Madoka Magica again.

    You needed to know that.

Bandai/Toei, there are things like "Shabadoobietouchhenshin" and then there are things like whatever this is. Stop this. I beg of you.

Arghh who am I kidding this is pretty cool :D

  • edited 2013-01-27 11:22:01

Seems silly in good way, so better than say, transforming by eating candy (Ultraman Nice), which would be silly in a bad way.

  • Anyone here seen Ultraman Saga yet? i say it could've been better, but I love how the movie treated Asuka/Dyna. It's like they wanted to elevate the guy to "legendary" status. Which I agree with.
  • edited 2013-02-03 02:00:07

Ultra Zero Fight is... well, the most recent episode hasn't really progressed much, besides some cool fighting stuff between Ultimate Force Zero and the Darkness Five gang.

Ultraman Retsuden just finished the Tiga, Dyna & Gaia movie. Wish there were subtitles, since I don't have a very good memory about the details of the movie. And I know and official English subtitle track exists for that movie. The battle music recycled from Gaia's TV series was pretty cool, and I can't help but notice how Dyna was the only one who didn't have any problem at all against his opponent. Kinda lame how a single plot device was responsible for every damn thing in the movie, though.

Buuuut, the previews at the end of the episode were interesting. Looks like the next Retsuden episode will be "The Forbidden Words" from the original Ultraman, as in the episode featuring Mephilas. AKA telepathic cat-eared spaceman Mephistopheles. There's also a preview for upcoming Ultra Zero Fight, and omigosh, Ultraman Belial is totally back! And I think he's wearing the Armor of Darkness. He was just too ludicrous to stay dead anyway.

  • There is love everywhere, I already know

I want to see the whole trilogy, but I suck at finding toku subs (The only version of Saga I've seen is one of those ode to absolute video nerdery 5+GB FLAC audio ones).

^ You can look on eBay for subtitled DVDs from Malaysia, like this one. Those are actually licensed. Just check for releases from a company called "Speedy". That name should be on the corner somewhere on the DVD packaging. There was announcement from Tsuburaya about said company.

See here, and look for the entry dated 5/18/2010.

I've never tried the English dubbing on those, though. Mainly 'cos a) subtitles are also available on those DVDs and b) I imagine those are even worse than their Malay dubs. Still, the DVDs good enough. The Malaysian company also has subbed DVDs for both seasons of Ultra Galaxy, and the direct-to-video side stories. There are some annoyingly long advertisements at the beginning of most of their releases, before the menu shows up, but certain players like VLC skips those, in my experience.

Really, for some Ultraman media, I don't need fansubs at all. Which reminds me, I should try and find the R2 DVD for Ultraman the Next someday...
