Does anyone have any connections such that they could help a friend of mine get a job in education or museums or something in Boston? Like definitely and securely get a job that would allow them to support themself starting this fall and beyond? This is someone who doesn't fear death, only failure: I'm scared for them. If you don't have connections personally, does anyone have parents or relatives who do?

I think that looks pretty interesting and might actually be kind of useful, especially with that "fallacy fallacy" thing. Still, I am not sure that pointing to a logical fallacy someone committed like that is really a good idea. I feel like it is lot better to just explain why you find his or her argument problematic, skipping the whole "you committed W fallacy" step. I might be wrong about this, but I think that labeling logical fallacies when in an argument can make you come off as elitist in the "it's not worth wasting my time explaining it to you" sense.

^^Yeah, IMO, it's probably best to just explain where the flaw in logic is in your own words. Maybe then tack on a "BTW, that's called the X fallacy" with a Wikipedia link if you really want to highlight that there's an official term for the mistake but don't want to sound insulting or whatever.

Yeah, that kind of occurred to me. Then again, the guy who linked to it on Facebook, which is how I found it...well ok, I was going to say that he's a pretty harsh guy and this suits his style. But then I realized he's eloquent enough to be harsh in his own words. He's really tall, doesn't talk much, plays the cello, can do legit parkour, is a math major, and has said that it's a bad idea to sneak up on him and surprise him because he will probably hurt you. Uh yeah. That has nothing to do with any of this.

Earlier today I saw two mockingbirds having sex, or at least trying to, under a bush. They were making a lot of noise, very varied songs. Being mockingbirds, those songs very well might have been those of other birds. Wouldn't that be the equivalent, with people, of what you shout during sex being composed entirely of impressions or at least delivered in foreign accents? (Wow this is random, and for me unusually crude...)

I was gone all of yesterday because of Thanksgiving. I come back at night and I think I got here right after the drama, but before I could investigate, my mom walks in and makes me turn off the computer and go to sleep. Today I had ample time to check up on things but completely forgot until now, late at night again. The point of this: Proving that it's not as simple as "I was gone and missed the drama", and that there's nothing stranger then getting a glimpse of something and then being forced to leave, an aspect of internet use that doesn't get nearly enough publicity...

I ran into a door a little while ago. By "ran" I of course mean "collided with at walking speed", I wasn't actually running. When a door has a pushbar, I have a tendency to go through it vigorously. But in this case, my face/nose was sort of leading, and I pushed on the hinge end of the door rather than the loose end so it didn't really open. It hurt. A bit. I let out an audible response. There were about two people who could have heard me, including a guy reading right by me, but no one reacted. It's a good thing I *wasn't* more seriously hurt, because that doesn't bode well. One does not have to be stupid or incredibly clumsy or distracted to walk into a door. Sometimes you just get unlucky.

Well, that is at least better than running (actually colliding at running speed) into a door length window indoors. In any event, that does not sound like it was too much fun. Another thing that I think you have to be pretty careful to watch out for is when you are on one side of a push door (like the ones in front of public restrooms) and someone on the other side pushes it into you right before you try to push it the other way.

Yeah, it didn't hurt too much. I wasn't moving that fast. Regarding restroom doors, my dad always specifically told to not stand around right inside them lest someone run into me that way. So I try to be mindful of that...

So there's Frances now, right, most of you know about her. And the girl I had a huge crush on in high school, Jenn...her middle name is Frances. I just learned today that Frances played Gonzalo in Shakespeare's The Tempest around when she was a freshman in high school. Jenn played the exact same character (well, a genderflipped version thereof) at basically the exact same age, that was the first time I ever saw her, really. The coincidence is incredible. I was kind of freaking out.

On Facebook I was involuntarily added to a group, something about vowing to show your kids the original Disney movies...I don't like getting involuntarily invited to groups, much less ones that imply I have vowed something simply by being in them, especially when I've never actually seen most of the movies on their list! I made a post basically saying as such. I admitted they were probably going to ask me to leave (like they did to a guy who basically said "I fail to see the point in this.") and even invited them to yell at me if they see me around on campus. Now I'm scared to go back on Facebook, and instead of yelling at me, group participants will probably edge away from me IRL while talking behind my back about how weird and unpleasant I am. Sure is great to be back at college!

Though to play devil's advocate, it is worthwhile to show kids some more intense movies rather than merely be coddled with so-called "kid-friendly" stuff. Not necessarily Disney, but they certainly had that kind of impact on me.

The point of the group was basically "We must not forget to show our kids most of the traditionally animated Disney movies from roughly Snow White to Mulan, with Pixar being regarded as slightly less important, so that they have the same great childhood experience we did, and don't lose the importance of these movies under a flood of everything else Disney has made since then and will continue to make." To which of course, I will say again...look, I know about all these. I remember when Hercules came out, but never saw it. I got the Pocahontas soundtrack out of the library for some reason but never saw it. I saw the Lion King once on video, I was a huge fan of Mulan at the time but only saw it on video and probably no more than 2-3 times. The first movie I ever saw in a theater was Toy Story 2. But ultimately, I never saw most Disney animated movies. I was a weird kid, and maybe I missed out on something good here, but I was busy having a great childhood without them. So that was a very presumptuous group and therefore stupid to invite someone to it who you haven't spoken to in like 2 years...

Ok, so, there's this company called Rejuvenation, based out of Portland, Oregon. Basically all they do is make reproductions of vintage light fixtures, and they're damn good at it. We've been getting their catalogs in the mail for years, like since I was a kid, so they became a familiar part of my life. Here's the kind of guy I am: Several years ago, back in high school, I was suddenly struck by a bolt of inspiration and created a roughly 2/3 page long conceptual pitch for an epic sci-fi saga involving sky-ships...the entirety of which was based on one of my beloved Rejuvenation catalogs. I never did anything with this idea, of course. It was in theory one of the most monumentally bizarre and just plain dumb concepts that I've ever created. But it's also a sort of terrifying glimpse into how my mind works.

There have been enough "statuses" (is that what you call this thing?) about houses from me. Here's one about various motor vehicles! First off, the Suzuki V-Strom 650 looks like kind of the greatest thing ever, though maybe not the best choice for a first motorcycle. Second of all, my sudden acceptance of the Volvo S40 was somewhat tempered by the realization that the damn thing doesn't come with all wheel drive. Guess it's back to looking at Subarus...

I really hate it when people try to "raise awareness" of cancer. Because most of the population definitely has never heard of it before. Frankly, it just strikes me as people wanting to feel good with minimal effort. I did wear a Livestrong band for awhile, because the money actually goes toward the cause.

Yeah, I never post things that go around on Facebook. And I think you can tell a fair amount about a person by whether they choose to do so or not. Well, ok, that's a bit of an exaggeration...but yeah, I avoid giving in to peer pressure. Often just because it makes me proud to not do so, regardless of what they're pressuring about! I don't have very many causes, if any. And the few I suppose I do have, I don't like showing public support for. Hence the no wristbands thing. I have no problem donating some money to a good cause, but normally charities try to give you something in return and I'm like "No thanks." Not even for bake sales. I am usually in the mood for baked goods in the evening, not right after lunch. >_

It's a specific thing. Just like there are specific statuses related to mothers and brothers and stuff. It's a reposting thing: It has a body of content and then basically ends with "If you agree or if this is relevant to you, repost it." And yes cancer has touched nearly all our lives, but if you really want to express something about it, copypasta with the name of someone specific you lost or whatever tacked on the end doesn't seem like the best way to go. After like ten repetitions of the exact same thing show up on your newsfeed, it just gets annoying. I would quote the exact thing here, but I don't feel like it. The opening sentence is simply "Stupid cancer." It gets marginally more sophisticated than that, but to me that was a terrible first impression...
