    Huh, apparently the voice actress for Quiet sat in some of the same classes I did during a minor Japanese Studies. The more you know. Also have to tell the Human Centipede director that the yearbook his foreword was supposed to be in has been nuked due to committee peeps failing to actually commit, and gonna finish M.A. Larson's leftover beer tonight because this is namedrop night.

    Found out about the suspension-appeal thread (which I actually am capable of posting in), and posted in there. But apart from Deadbeatloser22 asking me a single question over 24 hours ago, no response.

    I really do wonder if Fighteer just likes to keep people waiting forever there as a test, instead of actually being willing to work things out with people without any bullshit. There's another guy waiting for an answer too. If that's the way they're gonna be about it, fuck 'em.

    Huh, witnessed the aftermath of a drive-by shooting, dude bleeding on the ground, very close to where I live. Police arrived, dude got medchopped to the hospital. Feels weird, man.

    That reminds me of a situationally inconsiderate joke. Since it's this kind of situation, I'll tell you a story from today. So, I was explaining the workings of our dielectric spectroscopy setup to a friend who is a labmate of mine.

    Her: Ah, yes. I come to it now. [meaning she understood]
    Me: Good. It's very bad when a woman can't come.
    Her: [points at me]
    Me: [point at her]

    She also said once that I'm good at telling naughty jokes, so I strive to live up to the expectations.

    Ask her out (this is my response to everything). Also, no worries about my emotional state, it only took a few hours to get monstrously blasé because it turns out the town has a shooting incident once a year or so. Compared to what some of you folks have had happen to you this is basically nothing.

    Let's see... I earwitnessed some shooting at uni once. A dude was shot in the leg, but IIRC he recovered. I think that's about it when it comes to shootings.

    IIRC, one of the reasons my parents moved here before I was born was because crime was way lower in Canada than in the parts of the U.S. they'd lived in. This was in the late '70s.

    Fast forward to today, where every so often you'll hear about a shooting or something in Toronto on the news. I'm sure they're still less frequent than they are in the U.S., but I remember when I was a kid I would never hear about any shootings. And it wasn't like I was sheltered from crime news or anything. For whatever reason, things got worse.

    (Somebody once told me that one of the worst parts of the Greater Toronto Area when it came to violent crime was Scarborough. This was like ten years ago, though, so I don't know if that's still the case.)
