What was the reason?
And also the whole SimCity clusterfuck, to boot.
Thing is, while it sold 1.1 million, they were probably shooting for more like 5 million.
Hell, I don't think 1.1 mil. is anything to brag about in today's industry.
I'm pretty sure that EA is not quite that evil. They may be brash and stupid, but I'm willing to be they're not quite that evil.
Their employees aren't, but investors, who decide stuff like who the CEO is, don't tend to care much about the company beyond "are they making a profit and growing?"
Well, this certainly is a thing.
More than 10 million people thought to have accounts with Electronic Arts's (EA) Origin game store are at risk from a hack attack that swaps games for malicious code, researchers say.
Would that apply to services like Steam and Desura as well?
Unless Steam and Desura run the exact same security as Origin, no. (So the answer is no.)
Yeah. That's exactly the problem with preorders and first day purchases. Especially from EA. And EA's tsrategy has been for quite some time to rely exactly on this. Unfortunately, the customers are stupid enough that it works.

Aliens: Colonial Marines is now a completed awful game. Unless you have it on console, in which case...too bad, I guess.
Reminder that if you don't have Bastion yet, you should get it right now.
what is Bastion anyway?
though the SciFi RPG the developers are planning on putting out looks pretty cool.
^It's an isometric hack-and-slash game with a really well conveyed story, great music, and great atmosphere.
Everybody I know who's played the game has loved it.
Also, speaking of.
I didn't complete Bastion, but I thought it was pretty boring.
What is it like having no soul?
Alex, I am ashamed of you.
Is it because there were no swords? It's probably because there were no swords.
The machete is kinda like a sword!
It's a machete, though. For chopping and junk. Not for parrying, blocking, and single-time attacks.
The lack of swords was probably the major strike against it, in my book.
Also, the narration was an interesting touch, but it was kind of straightforward and not the act of genius some made it out to be. Added to that, I didn't really feel as though the gameplay had much depth, but nor was it particularly immediate or tense. There are a lot of individually good ideas with individually good execution in that game, but I don't think it came together as a whole particularly well, mostly because of the boilerplate gameplay. Aesthetically, the game is fantastic, including its aural elements. But given how detached I felt the gameplay was from that, and given how the gameplay wasn't particularly noteworthy in and of itself, I could spend my time on better games.
...seriously? '_'
