  • Holy FUCK Shizune's arc was boring. The entire second act, you're not given a single choice in anything.

  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!

That's the reason you found it boring? I'd have been fine with that if something was actually happening.

  • Yeah, the other facets don't help, either.

  • «I prefer the Rowling and Tomino one.»

I prefer the Rowling and Hussie one.  Tomino only killed off all his characters once.

  • He who laments and can't let go of the past is forever doomed to solitude.

    Hussie who?

  • Silence is golden.

I believe ponicalica meant Andew Hussy, creator of the popular action cartoon (aka: anime) Homestruck.

  • He who laments and can't let go of the past is forever doomed to solitude.

When he said Hussie killed his cast more than once, he meant in different stories or just in homestuck, because if the latter, it wouldn't make sense to compare it to Space Runaway Ideon.

  • You can change. You can.

From what I understand, characters in Homestuck have died more than once.

    Also, remember, timetravel.jpg

  • He who laments and can't let go of the past is forever doomed to solitude.

So what? If the cast dies more than once and time travel is in the way, there's no gravitas at all.

  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!

That's not how it happens in Homestuck. Well, not entirely. It does happen like that for some characters.

  • He who laments and can't let go of the past is forever doomed to solitude.

Point still stands, killing the cast more than once in a work takes a lot of the gravitas from the deaths doesn't it?

  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!

Not the way it's set up in Homestuck. Most of the main characters have two "selves," sort of. If both die, the character's permanently dead. Usually.

  • He who laments and can't let go of the past is forever doomed to solitude.

Usually? So, there are exceptions? I think there is a headache where my brain used to be.

  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!

Well...let's just say Homestuck is a very long series with a canon you kinda just have to read it to understand.

One example of impermanent death is that there are certain beds which serve the function of ascending characters to a more powerful state called "god tier," but the associated character has to die in that bed to activate it.

But more often than not, if something renders a character permanently dead, they stay that way.

I would argue that it really doesn't matter whether someone can die a million times. Death always has gravitas provided it's written well and it isn't used cheaply, as well as if it's shown to affect the people around him.

In other words, get off your ass and read Daytripper. You'll thank me for it later.

He who laments and can't let go of the past is forever doomed to solitude.

I think there are two headaches now.

someone is not a cast. Is it?

  • You can change. You can.

Depends on the work. I remember this movie that is about a guy's different personalities trapped in a hotel trying to murder each other. Fun times.

  • He who laments and can't let go of the past is forever doomed to solitude.

So, he played each and every personality? Othewise not a cast.

  • You can change. You can.

When you say "played" you mean the same actor or what

  • He who laments and can't let go of the past is forever doomed to solitude.

    Yup.

  • You can change. You can.

A character can be played by different actors. It doesn't matter as long as they count as the same character.

inb4 ontology derail about what is the "same character" and what constitutes a character

  • He who laments and can't let go of the past is forever doomed to solitude.

a group of bits form a character, silly.

  • When thinking about death in homestuck you have to remember its still primarily a comedy. I can't think of a single permanent death in homestuck that didn't have any comedic elements to it at all.

  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!

    ^Nepeta?

  • While that may not have been a joke in itself, the way the honks were juxtaposed with the BEEP and a closeup of a crashed car where it turns out no one was hurt seemed fairly joky.

  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!

Yeah, I actually misremembered the order of the real and dream self deaths there. The dream-death was the noncomedic one I was thinking of.

  • But you never had any to begin with.
