  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
I started watching so that I could say, without being uninformed, that it wasn't very good.
  • Why do you continue to resist, Juan? It is futile.

^^Same, though for me it was more so I could say it wasn't my type. Haven't watched anything since the first episode.

I am not part of any war.

Don't include me in your jokes.

I dislike the homestuck and MLP drama, joking or not.

Mostly because I can't tell the difference between the two, and it gets very confusing and grating.
  • You can change. You can.
Eh, I dislike anything and everything popula ever.

--returns to Taxi Driver analysis homework--
  • I promised to talk about MLP as least often as possible, but let me say I have no problem admitting I like the show. I will also admit I get annoyed when certain people who I won't name specifically start complaining about this show on a weekly basis, but I've learned self-restraint over the past few months and learned to ignore what I don't like to read.
  • no longer cuddly, but still Edmond
I posted my thoughts in my blog. Short version: It sucks, but I haven't given up hope that the series will return to form two weeks from now.

So, in other words, exactly within expectations.

    Whoot.

    It's the first episode, dude.

We had the same set up in the first season as well.

Hell, this one is arguably better than the first one, because we have someone much less sympathetic, and the stakes have been set higher.

Of COURSE there isn't much idle amusing moments, because it's only been one episode, and it focuses on taking away their qualities. It'd be like complaining about an episode where say, only pinkie became grumpy, and saying it's horrible because pinkie is acting differently.
  • You can change. You can.
Honestl, I just commented because those three never striked me as people who watched the show, that's all.

Yeah but in that case, it could be excused as Early Installment Weirdness. Here, its just stupid.

Also, Nightmare Moon was actually kind of cool. Discord is just... stupid.
  • He has the feel of a Darkwing Duck villain, which is always a plus in my book.

    @Juan

I'm not really a fan of the show itself, but more of the fan culture, anyways.

Also, look how your precious Doctor has been corrupted by the ponies:

  • Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the last Day.
  • You can change. You can.
Where is the Doctor when you need him :<
  • ^ Equestria, of course
  • You can change. You can.
I thought you'd say "Ponyfrey" or something.

    Gallopfrey, actually.

More on topic, I just watched the new episode.  It really wasn't that bad, and I have a hard time taking it to mean that this is a new direction for the series.  Yeah, the season premiere of the first season was about using the elements to fight evil.  But then the rest of the season was just random pony nonsense.  If episodes three and four come around, and they're about kicking ass too, maybe you can start to worry.

But as it is now, it seems like reading too much into the little information we have and getting worked up over nothing.  Don't be so cynical.

Discord is Q.  Your argument is invalid.
  • I like Discord. He seems like a legit villain. Not a to-be-redeemed villain, although I would like to see how his defeat is handled.

I like him better than Nightmare Moon.

    Also, John de Lancie.
  • He's got a good voice.

Back in my day, being a complete ripoff of a different character would be considered a mark against.

Especially a character from a different show that has a completely different mood, setting, style and tone. I don't see where you nerds get the idea that just because something happened in one work of fiction that it can be freely tossed into any other work of fiction of any stripe or shape whatsoever. Your argument here is basically "it worked for Star Trek, why not MLP too" which is just... seriously, dude?  That's like saying "X-Men dealt with the holocaust so there's no reason an episode of Hello Kitty can't bring it up!"
  • Why not? Truely, why not?
  • Discord seems more like a trickster villain, One of those villains who can cause real problems, but never gets the final boot to the head that you wish they did.

I like him, He realizes something that some villains don't.

When you're guaranteed victory, you can relax and have some fun, which is exactly what he did.

... You're going to have to clarify the question. Why not what?

    also, it's "truly"
  • Character X reminds me of Character Y from somewhat similar series B.

It's mostly used as a comparing tool for Emotion A.

As in, Character Y provoked emotion A.

    Character X provoked emotion A.

It doesn't have anything to do with the differences in the series, just the sort of emotions these characters provoke.
  • "you nerds"? Dohohoho.

I see no other resemblance in the character than a faint homage, and the creature works in the setting.

  • First episode was awesome and Q Discord was awesome.

WMG: Discord is Q. And he likes messin with Celestia just as much as Picard.
  • Back in my day, being a complete ripoff of a different character would be considered a mark against.

    Old. We're getting old.

Oh, and Q was always a terrible character. Seriously, boys- sort yourselves out.

  • The new season is up?

Oh, here goes my attempts to study

    >>Back in my day, being a complete ripoff of a different character would be considered a mark against.

First of all, I was referring to the fact that Discord was voiced by John de Lancie, because he's awesome. Second of all, Q isn't the only trickster villain like that ever. It's not a total ripoff, come on.

    >>Especially a character from a different show that has a completely different mood, setting, style and tone. I don't see where you nerds get the idea that just because something happened in one work of fiction that it can be freely tossed into any other work of fiction of any stripe or shape whatsoever. Q is an archetype. That kind of villain is fairly common. And it's not like they picked the Borg or something actually dark to put in the show.

Besides, that's not what I'm saying at all. Stop willfully misinterpretting things to make "nerds" look as badly as possible. Especially when we're talking about goddamn ponies, Jesus Christ.

Besides, Discord was a lot more fun to watch than Nightmare Moon. He actually did stuff and had an actual personality.

    >>you nerds

    come on, seriously
