Videogames nowadays

edited 2011-08-05 13:19:11 in General
Nintendo sucks because its games are the same as they were when I was little and less cynical than I am now.

And everyone else sucks because their games are different then they were when I was little and less cynical than I am now.

Give us fire! Give us ruin! Give us our glory!
Also game corporations are evil blah blah blah DRM blah blah blah DLC blah blah blah creative quagmire blah blah blah East vs West blah blah blah X is RUINED FOREVER blah blah blah.
  • Also,  Call Of Juarez sucks because I am not fighting Cacodemons in modern-day Mexico.
  • Pokémon look like Digimon.

They are running out of ideas.

The best pokémon were the ones that were all shaped like orbs.
  • I'm afraid that game companies producing games that people like and will purchase will lead to a death of creativity.

PC's are the absolute best medium for gaming, and are completely cost effective and easy to use for the layman. And if you disagree with me, then your one of the hordes of casualfags that dare to call themselves real gamers.
  • You can change. You can.
ah, and i actually came here to legitimately complain about my inability to enjoy gaming these days.

    carry on, then.
  • Video games suck because they make them too short and price them too high for such short games.  Vidego game story telling has honestly gotten worse overall.  I am hoping some games like Deus Ex Human Revolution forgo this problem.
  • I dunno.  If you're just going by price-per-unit-of-time, $60 for a 40+ hour RPG sounds a lot more cost-effective than $15 for a 2-hour movie.
  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!

You know, I keep forgetting to save that gif for my sinister purposes.

    This has now changed.

You're not allowed to give me crap for liking Supernatural anymore, Juan. =P

There hasn't been a single mention of DRM yet? Shame.'

I find this kind of similar to buying a package of beef which you can make into four hamburgers, vs. actually buying four hamburgers at burger king. The former is technically more expensive since you have to buy the bread, toppings etc. separately and have to cook it... but its honestly the healthier experience.

Non-stupid version: The RPG might be a better value, but you're more likely to actually enjoy the movie.
  • Well, that depends on your tastes in entertainment and whatnot, but I'm just saying that, based on how long they last (which is what Tuefel mentioned specifically), video games aren't necessarily more expensive than other entertainment media.
  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
Measuring how good something is by how long it is really really dumb.

By that logic, Transformers 3 is better than The Seventh Seal, because it's twice as long.
  • Well... blame Tuefel for that, not me.
  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
I wasn't blaming you. I was just saying that there shouldn't be an incentive to make a game 'longer'.

Make a game too long and it begins to feel like a chore to finish.

I'm lookin' at you, L.A. Noire.
  • L.A. Noire ended way too soon.
  • Ah.  Well... yeah.  I agree it's silly to judge a game by its length.

In fact, I think shorter games are kind of better, since I'm a lot less likely to quit halfway through, and a lot more likely to play it again after I beat it once.  But even then it's not like I think games are bad just because they're long/short/whatever.
  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
A game should be as long as it needs to be to tell its story and give you the full experience of its mechanics without wearing them out.

To be or not to be? That is the question.
I think Tuefel is right about this. The Single Player component of games is starting to be dropped off in favor of multiplayer...

However, I'm mainly concerned about the game industry for dumbing down games. That needs to stop.

Which ones are being dumbed down, and is it being confused with streamlining?

To be or not to be? That is the question.
Auto-Aim, for instance. That thing has been bothering me for a long time... For FPSes.

And sorry about that, but I'm confusing it with streamlining. Sometimes, Streamlining is good, but as long as the game is not dumbed down.

EDIT: Trying to Clarify my post.
  • I like auto-aim because it's too hard to hit stuff otherwise.
  • When in Turkey, ROCK THE FUCK OUT
Super Metroid would like a word with you.

To be or not to be? That is the question.
^ Ah. I understand. Super Metroid is stellar. Sorry about that.

And I'm done with that part.

Most Single Player games nowadays are short, and the prices are high. What the...

As for Story? There are some good games that are released today that offer good storylines.

On the other hand, Just Cause 2 is awesome. And that game has been released for quite a while.
  • I'm a damn twisted person
Auto aiming in a platformer game is cool with me. When I'm playing Assassins Creed or Metroid, it's a bit hard to keep steady aim on something whilst running around like crazy.
  • I still like Nintendo, but I'm concerned that they're trying too hard to pander to the Apple crowd and thus de-emphasizing games.
  • no longer cuddly, but still Edmond
Wait... Super Metroid had auto-aiming? Since when?

Unless you actually mean Metroid Prime.

Also, auto-aiming in FPSes has existed as far back as Doom.
