Sorry to intrude, but I am not sure I understand this. I was under the impression that the Haruhi stuff in Lucky Star, while certainly not nonexistent, was still not quite that prevalent. I guess it might just be my bias here or something since I did and do like Lucky Star.
On the topic at hand, I think the "pandering to otaku" criticism usually boils down to "show is geared towards an audience that I am not a part of" more than anything else. Many times I feel like it is similar to saying that an ultra-violent FPS is "pandering to hardcore fanboys/fangirls."
I suppose that is true, but I wonder if saying something like that means that one has a zero-sum view of media. Basically, does that mean that someone believes that the more "otaku pandering" shows appear the fewer shows that they like do? I am not sure that really is the case, but I am not familiar with how networks decide that kind of thing. I suppose part of it is that "otaku" pandering stuff just sells.
I watched the first 20 episodes or so, then I just stopped, for no real reason.
I should probably watch it again at some point.

I'd hit it ._.No, if you take the ending episode of Lost, and compare it to the agenda and plot of Lucky Star, you will begin to see very obvious similarities.
