Okay, just to clear things up
I think Troper Tales should be deleted.
There are multiple reasons for this. First, it wasn't needed in the first place. The idea of containment is bullshit. Wikipedia doesn't need a place where people post uncited information. It was a hasty, reactive decision made to put a bunch of shit where Fast Eddie wouldn't see it. Second, the damage has already been done. It was done, a long time ago. This Troper is just the most recent manifestation. And while it's true that the Crazy Goggs of the world probably would have looked down on us anyway, it's also true that This Troper and things like it probably wouldn't have manifested off of Tvtropes if it hadn't been for Troper Tales. I remember people complaining about how dumb it was years ago (on the Giant In The Playground forums, which were generally friendly towards out site) , and the feelings toward it have not improved. Even people who like the site point out how dumb it is. Deleting it is a strong reaction that shows that we're willing to ditch that kind of shit, which has a much greater symbolic value than just making people curate something that shouldn't have been on the site in the first place 24/7. Third, it's much easier for trolling to survive in Poes Law form that it is on the actual wiki.
Also, most of the arguments for keeping it kind of suck. It's moronic to suggest that getting rid of troper tales means that we should ditch the forums. Lots of places have forums, but few have places where people can solipstically shout their idiosyncrasies into the void like Troper Tales. A well-maintained forum is like a conversation, where most of the social pressures of everyday life keep things from getting too dumb.
It's not like deleting it would tear the wiki apart. We survived the loss of fetish fuel, and the cleaning of the Sonichu page. I just think that the time where keeping it and just increasing moderation passed a long time ago.
There. I'm done talking about it. Feel free to tell me how much of an idiot I am.

AKA, It Just Bugs Me, the Fridge namespace, the YMMV namespace, the attempted Manga/Anime renaming, the sex thread crackdown, the Old Folks Home, the Sonichu debacle and the subsequent cutting of Protection from Editors and Small Name, Big Ego among others...
No really. Next time, you tell us that you think that Tongpu should be banned. Or that you think that "Unpopular Opinions" threads sucks.
Also, TT came about before a lot of the safeguards we have now existed. It's obselete.
Really the reason why TvTropes is being mocked (well one of them) is the hugbox mentality that has sprung up. We're too damn accepting of our own and not accepting enough of outside opinion as the whole This Troper debacle has proven. The result are things that are outright abhorrent to the outside viewer, and damaging the site's reputation as a whole. Unless we can curb that (though not entirely eliminate it because that borders on thoughtcrime), TvTropes will quickly be known as a "haven for neckbeards".
There. I said it. Feel free to mock me as well.
We're probably not at "neckbeard haven" yet.
The relativist libertarian in me has a really hard time buying into the whole hugbox idea because he thinks that people should be free to do what they want as long as they aren't hurting anybody, even if they're an otherkin bicycle fetishist who can't keep their mouth shut.
But then the rest of me interjects with "Dude, otherkin bicycle fetishist". And then the relativist libertarian shuts up.
(IJBM: Trying to understand and synthesize this kind of stuff on a philosophical level.)
But my personal grievances with FE is a topic for another day.
Edit: Oh wow, I got massively ninja'd.

While there is reason to dislike This Troper other than what I am about to say, much of the criticism from inside TvTropes came off to me as the result of the series puncturing the superiority complex to the rest of the Internet the community had built up. Suddenly, TvTropes was no longer this paradise of tolerance and acceptance in the wretched web of the Net and was being looked down on rather than up to. Of course, there already were festering problems in utopia, such as people becoming overly dependent on the community and the passive-aggressive venting that frequently occurred in "Post your random thoughts". I'd also add that tolerance was excessive to the point that they almost seemed to be enabling unhealthy lifestyles such as being a hikikomori (though of course, people always tell me it's just a joke).
And truth be told, one of the reasons I decided to leave the site was because I began to dislike the connotations of the "troper" label.
It was "TvTropes is anti-intellectualism for pedophiles". Not shitting you.
