I found a thread that was asking if your significant other turned into an animal and you had to have sex with them to turn them back, what animal would be least tramautic
...Some of the replies just... I think they put entirely too much thought into it (No idea why I didn't just close that tab. Morbid fascination?)
Sometimes I think that Reddit is 4chan lite (I dread the day I find a Reddit board that is like /b/)
Comments
As someone who dips into 4chan on a reasonably regular basis, I can tell you that Reddit is far, far worse than 4chan (perhaps aside from /b/).
How does reddit work?
My knowledge of Reddit comes solely from the Something Awful thread for the purposes of mocking it (admittedly, not exactly an unbiased source). Here's what I know:-
1. Reddit's a site where members share information they've found on particular topics relevant to the particular sub-reddit you're in. Members make comments on the stuff you come up with and you can vote those comments up and down.
2. It's got a lot of awful members with awful opinions - far worse than most you'll get on TV Tropes.
3. In particular, parts of it are happy homes for embittered nerds who hate women, embittered nerds who hate non-white people, Pick-Up Artists, internet atheists, fans of child porn, rape porn and all kinds of other weird porn, and other assorted outcasts of humanity.
4. The moderation is even worse than Fast Eddie's efforts.
2 - For a great example, see the current top thread in r/wtf. So many people are defending the existence of a subreddit that sexualizes preteen children and are getting upvoted like mad.
3 - r/beatingtrannies sums this up nicely (I still can't believe this exists. By the way, Reddit's random reddit tool can bring up interesting stuff)
4 - Varies from subreddit to subreddit
It seems to be like a system where you can get a forum, except that for some reason the vast majority are filled with creeps and idiots
So this is actually divided into categories like an imageboard, not just a general "I found this interesting thing on the web" feed like Twitter?
People submit links or posts to subreddits, which are essentially subsections of the site dedicated to a specific topic, people upvote or downvote the links, comment on said links, and upvote and downvote comments.
Every upvote and downvote you get contributes to your karma score, divided into "link" karma (up-down votes on links) and "comment" karma (ditto on comments).
Generally it is better to stick to the smaller communities (depending on the smaller community - once again I point to r/beatingtrannies and r/beatingwomen as examples of horrid subreddits)
why do those exist
why
just why
Wicked - Yeah, that's about every post on the SA thread that isn't quoting reddit, including a couple of mine.
"Every upvote and downvote you get contributes to your karma score, divided into "link" karma (up-down votes on links) and "comment" karma (ditto on comments)."
And let me guess: people with horrible opinions get upvoted while people speaking out against those horrible opinions get downvoted.
why do those exist
why
just why
Oh don't worry, they're just ironic (I dislike Reddit very much).
Another point worth noting is that they've completely run the "rage comic" meme into the ground, to the extent where it's passed through the centre of the Earth and will probably soon fall out of a hole on the other side.
^^Oh dearest, that. Now I'm reminded that I tend to see one person frequently on Reddit in many of my classes and most of the stuff is pretty damn unfunny. Though it does show just how much the Internet is the human mind made material in some form. God help us...in the future.
Hey look they actively host and distribute actual child pornography. Read this thread from this page on and discover why Reddit is a horrible website.
Reddit is a horrible website.
Usually, I think that people claiming something needs to be burned to the ground are exaggerating, but in this case? I agree wholeheartedly. What of value came from that site anyway?

I am the admin of this subreddit and my advice is superior to all others. I'm sure that your daughter is just too stressed from school and you need to provide her relief from that stress. First, you need to get rid of your wife, and once you're at home alone with your daughter, make a romantic dinner with some wine. Now your daughter is going to be a little bit tipsy, so you need to try and seduce her. It isn!t difficult to seduce a 11 yo girl, you only need to talk to her nicely and she'll eventually gives in. Start stroking her and kissing her and spend a night full of love. She will love you forever after that, you can take that as guaranteed."
What Da HELL?!?!

Were I less lazy and more criminally-inclined, I would find their servers, set some thermite on top, and ignite it.
"What of value came from that site anyway?"
The part where Neil deGrasse Tyson responded to questions in the "ask me anything" subreddit. I've seen a few other neat things from that subreddit. Can't think of anything outside of it, though.
I... I was genuinely saddened by that.
It made me feel a bit better that they already contacted the FBI, but still.
Would it hurt to have more people (like, say, us) report it as well, to make sure it gets attention, or would that be redundant and unnecessary at this point?
nthing the "burn it to the ground" sentiment

Nah, it's hosted on Amazon's servers, which basically amounts to a quarter of the Internet. I wouldn't want anybody on an unrelated website getting affected. You can, however, send a letter detailing the fact that it's against the AUP to do this sort of thing:
Amazon Acceptable Use Policy:
In addition, here are some links to why Reddit is terrible (DON'T CLICK ON ANY OF THEM, THEY ARE NWS AND HORRIBLE) : Are you sick to your stomach yet? Other awful Reddit things here
If you were wondering, yes, the moderation and admins know about all of this. These are posts from /ideasfortheadmins, where users talk most directly to them.
Here is some stuff about the most notorious admin, ViolentAcrez, copy-pasted from SA:
"The inaction of reddit's administrators has been a frequent topic, part of that being violentacrez's shockingly close relationship with them. Violentacrez's Twitter account seems like a good example of this. Krispykrackers (head of advertising and the community helpline at reddit), hueypriest (reddit's general manager), andchromakode (developer) all follow violentacrez. So does jedberg (former administrator), KeyserSosa (former lead developer), and raldi (another former developer type). If you view their past tweets, you'll see that violentacrez has regularly been in direct, public contact with them.
From what I can tell, kn0thing (reddit co-founder) is one of the few on the reddit staff that has taken anything resembling a stance against violentacrez. In 2008, jailbait received the most votes in reddit's "Best Community" contest, with SuicideWatch taking a distant second, receiving about half as many votes (another shining example of the terribleness of the reddit community). kn0thing decided to give the award to SuicideWatch, and said that jailbait had his vote for the "Worst Community." Obviously kn0thing is still very complacent in allowing jailbait-esque subreddits, but it makes me think that if any sort of stance against pro-pedophile subreddits is to occur on a reddit management level, it would come from him. But he's knowingly let it go on for this long, so I doubt that it would be worth the effort of trying to get him to take action now.
Another interesting fact is that violentacrez has the third highest amount of karma on all of reddit for submitted links. Reddit can't get enough of the guy."
And some more stuff, likewise from SA:
"The reddit forums continue to harbor pedophiles and distributors of child porn including this man: http://www.reddit.com/user/tessorro who runs a subreddit called r/preteen_girls.
http://www.reddit.com/r/preteen_gir...ase_can/c3pxuv8
The main purveyor of child porn on reddit is violentacrez: http://www.reddit.com/user/violentacrez
He runs the following forums:
http://code.reddit.com/wiki/help/faqs/violentacrez and was formerly the leader of r/jailbait before Anderson Cooper reported on it and it was shut down.
A list of Jailbait (underage porn) forums which have sprung up to replace it: http://www.reddit.com/r/truejailbait
Here are some other forums which are particularly suspect for child porn and other abuse.
http://www.reddit.com/r/gaolbait
http://www.reddit.com/r/GirlsinSchoolUniforms
http://www.reddit.com/r/LegalTeens
http://www.reddit.com/r/niggerjailbait
http://www.reddit.com/r/Thenewjailbait
http://www.reddit.com/r/RealGirls
http://www.reddit.com/r/trapbait
The owners of reddit know there is active trading of child porn on their forums, and refuse to do anything about it.
This is my first time reporting a tip. I don't think I have to explain to the FBI how abusive and terrible child porn is for teen and pre-teen girls. Please please please investigate these popular internet sources of such material and the users who frequent them."
Don't just copy-paste things like that though! We don't want it to look like we're spamming. You can submit things like that, as well as edited tips containing other info, to https://tips.fbi.gov/ and other government websites. I myself have already done so. In addition, forward this stuff to absolutely everybody you can think of:
I am dead serious about all of this. I have already sent in stuff to the FBI and have signed up for DailyKos (to write an article in about a week, which is how long you have to wait from registration to having the ability to write articles).
Burn it all.
I'm going to file a report, but I need to think of how I'm going to say it; I can't just copy-paste links (and I don't know for sure how helpful any of it will be, since I dare not click any of them), and I don't know if I'm allowed to say anything in the Information box besides factual evidence.
For what it's worth, I'm writing up a thread for it on Beyond the Lampshade, so we can get more people to report it.
I retweeted some stuff about it I found on Twitter. That...probably won't spread the word too much, but I'm sure someone will find out about it from there.
They do realize that the whole of their site would get shut down, right?
Yikes... Well, it is probably for the best. The number of evil/disgusting reddits outweighs the number of ones with any good content (heck, the only ones I can think of worth saving are r/IAmA and r/NoSleep)
Those who support reddit in the GBS thread and other places can go to hell.
Nthing the burn it all sentiment
Reddit is so horrible.
I'll post about it on Facebook, too; it won't do me much good to tweet about it with only 15 followers (although Robert Dobbs of The Midsummer Classic is one of my followers, somehow, so hopefully he sees it and will report it), but I actually have 400-something Facebook friends. I just wonder if I'll meet with backlash from Redditors I happen to be friends with (on that note, are they not aware of this shit? -_-).
Reddit has the distinction to me of having THE most incompetent admins to ever run a forum. Who would leave this shit untouched? I know they hate censorship, but there are some things that are better left deleted.
Does it count as incompetence if they know about it and actively refuse to do something?
