"You wouldn't steal a car" makes more sense, since it was trying to equate something very few people approve of (stealing) with something a lot more people approve of (illegal downloads). This version just misses the point.

Actually, after being forced to sit through the ad a million times on DVDs, I felt like saying that, yes, I would steal a car, especially if it was owned by the guy who ran the film studio and commissioned the ad.

I don't think I've ever heard it as "You wouldn't download a car." Or I don't remember hearing it like that.

Because I would obviously download a car instead of buying it, if I could. Although if it were an illegal download, I would have to be extra careful about my source, since my life would depend on whatever vehicle I download, in a couple ways.
