buying stuff online

Not sure whether this is a webspace or a meatspace thread, since this is about how webspace doesn't translate well to meatspace.

I can't find groceries on Amazon.  Okay, maybe packaged, processed food.  But no lettuce, tomatoes, onions, apples, fresh meats, milk, eggs, and more.

In fact, the internet is not a great place to get life's essentials in general.  Perishables are right out, and even non-perishables experience a delay of several days.  Yeah, shipping.  You can pay out of the nose to get it quickly, but that's if you're willing and able.  This means two things:
* I can't get it immediately.  I can't check the product for defects.  While some online vendors have return policies, it's still a hassle if stuff goes wrong.
* I have to pay for shipping.  Sometimes I may be able to get discounted shipping, such as if I buy more than one thing from the same Half.com seller or over $25 worth of stuff Amazon's own retail department (some of which may be far higher-priced than items offered by other sellers).  So basically, either I pay at least $3.49 (quite possibly more) for shipping, or I have to jump through hoops to avoid it.
