"And I told you Anne, it isn't about the penis."
So what is it about? The posting of disgusting images? Just to be clear.Nice to see I'm being called a liar. The thread exists, currently on the second page of the Post Your Favorite (or Request) forum.
That this was even necessary doesn'T say good things about the userbase here.
Meanwhile, I'm going to post a picture of some chickens:

Thank you, GMH! Finally, a satisfying argument. Okay, I'm done.
I'm not calling you a liar, I just didn't think the thread actually existed.
Apparently it does. Whatever. What SA does doesn't really matter. It's what people do on this forum that matters.
Well, I'm going to disagree.
Guys, let's just all calm down and listen to some soothing music.
mad at things like cybering and being hugboxes in their threads,
derailing them annoyingly, trolling, harrassment, stuff like that. But
if I said, I don't want to be on a site that allows threads made by
Chagen (:p) No one would that's justified. Pedantic argument, I know,
but you know what I mean. If people didn't want to go into the thread,
they didn't have to. It's one thread, made by some 17 year old kid on
the internet, in a sea of threads, that probably would have died
eventually. A few people cared, a majority didn't. I don't see why it
matters.
shouldn't make our posts thinking "Um,will the SA guys approve of this"
because most likely they won't
This is basically what I meant in the other thread when I said that I worried "What will SA think?" would become the community standard.
Setting community standards that deem certain things inappropriate is fine, but basing it all on whether other websites might make fun of a particular thing is a needlessly paranoid way of going about it, in my opinion.

As a user, you don't have to worry about how the site as a whole is doing, but as mods, we do. And that means that shaping our policies and moderation in a style that discourages stupid shit like spam, porn, etc.. Now if you want to run your own open-season, everyone-posts-whatever-they-want website, you can go right ahead, but I guarantee you two things:
1. Rules will be created, be they unspoken and implied or explicitly stated. People who don't abide by those rules will be given mean looks by others at best and banned at worst.
2. There will be people who will disagree with those rules.
Now, the vast majority of us are, to put it lightly, not too keen on hanging out in a forum where someone thinks it's okay to post a picture of a penis. Perhaps you disagree with this cultural sensibility (which seems shared amongst most of us, despite us coming from all different cultures and backgrounds), but I hope you get that.
Not to mention it's not really a good conversation topic.
Did it ever cross your mind that it might not be a good idea?
