I'm not meant for positions of authority

Every time I'm an admin or mod, I tend to be too afraid to use my power unless absolutely necessary (and sometimes forget I have power...) and care more about myself and the users having fun than anything else. Same thing with being the leader of a presentation group (although I'll start getting pissy if nobody is doing their work... Usually resulting in me doing everything just in case, then being pleasantly surprised when the extra work is made redundant by the group having done their parts and just not saying even when I'm the one who needs everything to put it together) =/ Not very good with wielding the power stick at all

I've never been a mod or an admin.

Never really had that problem IRL, though.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
IJBM: I almost posted "what are you talking about, Everest? You're a mod right now!"

    Not even kidding.

Oh God, INUH, I actually lol'd.

It helps that I know Everest has problems being a mod.

Anyway, I'm not mean for positions of leadership, relatively.

I mean, I'm mostly the guy who heckles the leader and mocks him while envying him

And I want to be a director.

    You might see the problem.
  • a little muffled
I've only been a mod/admin on incredibly tiny forums; despite holding those positions in multiple places, I'm sure I've never banned anyone other than spambots or even given out warnings etc more than once or twice.

INUH: Not sure whether to be flattered or insulted :P
  • You can change. You can.
@Everest: Not particularly so, but I disagree with how you want to run the place (As we've discussed before)

I was going mostly by Cygan's account on how you acted, anyway (I.E Capable, but insecure)

    "(I.E Capable, but insecure)"

Sounds about right if I may be bold enough to imply that I'm capable.

^ I thought confidence required slapping
  • You can change. You can.
    Some people prefer different methods.

    I call them "pussies"
  • I think the problem if I ever became a mod is that I'd probably act a lot like Madrugada on TV Tropes and become "the meanie everyone loves to hate." I think it's partly an age-thing. Anyone over 30 in that kind of role is going to really struggle not to come across like everyone else's least-favourite teacher or their Mum/Dad on a bad day, rather than being "one of the guys with some extra powers."

^^ What if the method is choking a bitch while several mountain lions are trying to maul you to death?

I dunno how I'd be as a mod. I'd probably be fine. But I might end up trying too hard to not come off as dictatorial or asshole-ish.
  • if u do convins fashist akwaint hiz faec w pavment neway jus 2 b sur
I'm really power-hungry (usually for completely irrational reasons, such as self-gratifying), but when I do enter a position of authority I have trouble asserting discipline because people I know IRL can't really take me seriously. Don't know how good a mod I would be, but I'd certainly enjoy it, to be honest.

It's still choking a bitch, therefore, not a different method.

I dunno how I'd be as a mod. I'd probably be fine. But I might end up trying too hard to not come off as dictatorial or asshole-ish.

I wouldn't mind making the occasional dick move in the name of keeping order, myself.
  • As an example of my mentality if I were a mod:

If someone just came back from a ban and blamed other people for it, I would have the person rebanned on the spot as they've clearly learned nothing from the ban.

  • I think I would be a good mod.

Therefore, I'd be a terrible mod.
  • You can change. You can.
That's some shitty logic right there.

thinking you're capable of something doesn't mean you're uncapable of it.

I really wish people stopped that shit. They look like idiots instead of the smart people they often are.

    No compliment intended >:p
  • Well, I'm applying myself to my own standards, which is "people who think they should be mods, usually should never be allowed to be one."
  • But that's a rule based on general stereotypes rather than individual cases.
  • Well, I thought of it because of individual cases.

I mean, yeah, there are some who probably think they would be good mods, and would be good mods, but to me, I see it as a good rule of thumb to doubt those that proclaim their competency in that area.
  • You can change. You can.
Both cases barely work. mostly because it involves a case by case deal.

For example, I remember a certain poster commenting to me on private a while back that he would be a good mod, and i honestly think he could be, if he was let on. And in fact, he contacted Glenn and proposed the idea to him. He didn't accept, though. Cygan and Everest were new back then and he honestly thought he didn't need more mods.

Considering how things went, I find this sadly ironic and sad.
  • Well, is it possible to try advocating for his case now, if you haven't done so already?

  • You can change. You can.
Meh, I don't think Glenn wants any more mods right now and I don't really see the point.

Also, he's barely invested on the site.

My point is simply that being a good mod and wanting to be a mod are not directly correlated qualities, I guess. I just find that the anecdote easily points it out (Specially taking into account that Cygan didn't want to be a mod and...well, we all know how that went)
  • Perhaps I need to stop listening to the arrogant tropers talk about it, then.

  • You can change. You can.
The sentence should have ended in tropers, dear. ;)

Sorry, have to stop listening to you now.

    Yeah, probably.

"Perhaps I need to stop listening to the arrogant tropers talk about it, then tropers." ?

I dunno if I'd be any good as a mod on a forum that is not incredibly small.
  • I am the best OP... except maybe for Arha.
