I wanted to post this on TV Tropes' forum, but I chickened out.


What is this about? This wiki is a catalog of misinformation and entertaining lies.

Tropes are literary devices that a writer can rely on to fool the audience into forgetting how badly written the show they're watching is.  We are here to make fun of them.

The wiki is called "TV Tropes" because we started out as a bunch of couch potatoes.  Several years later, we suddenly realized tropes don't just happen on television.  They even show up in Real Life, because People Are Stupid.

We are not Wikipedia.  We're a buttload more informal.  We don't ban every contributor who uses breezy language and original thought, just the ones we don't like.  There Is No Such Thing As Notability, and no citations are needed.  So if you think of something that might have happened more than three times, you can post it in YKTTW, where it will just wither and die.  Until then, though, you can claim that you're a published author.
