A majority of the Zeldas' game start.

They're somethin' else.
Could we PLEASE have a prologue where we start with, and stay with, the sword? Thanks.

I love pointless dicking around as much as the next person, but please, make sure it's actually fun.

  • How about falling into a situation in which you need a blade(say, an enemy attack), but don't have one, thus making it a frantic race to find one.
  • One foot in front of the other, every day.
Honestly, I love the pointless pre-sword dicking around. I think it's charming.
  • They're somethin' else.
Zelda NES: You go into a room on the first screen of the game and obtain your sword. Acceptable.

Zelda II: You start with it just outside the sleeping Zelda's palace thing. Yes.

A Link To The Past: You grab it from your dead(?) uncle within 5 minutes. Okay.

Link's Awakening: You head back to the shipwreck to reclaim your sword, with just your shield to protect you. ... still okay.

Ocarina of Time: Okay, grabbing your sword from a silly ass maze is simple enough, but the fact that you have to steal from friends and neighbors just to buy a damn shield and allow your bitch ass bully to let you access the first dungeon is kinda pushing it.

Majora's Mask: Who the fuck cares about your sword, you just got transformed into a damn deku scrub. Hope you know what the fuck you're doing and know where to poke around, or else your ass'll get game over'd into trying to find out all over again.

Wind Waker: Engh... same with MM, but without the transformation, and more NPC induced stupidity and poorly implemented stealth gameplay.

    Twilight Princess: >:/
  • It's meant to introduce the basic mechanics of walking, targeting, items, etc. for the kiddies. Luckily it's never more than half an hour and is most of the time interspersed with a new gameplay mechanic to keep stuff interesting for the fans.

Still, I wish for once it would follow the example of some fangames and use a swordless sequence based on run-and-hide(a bit like Forsaken Fortress the first time, but without the clunky, slow-paced stealth).

  • You can change. You can.
I still want a game where Ganondorf immediately starts hunting Link down the first chance he can.

Agreed. Although I loved how Ocarina did it, actually.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
^You know, it just occurred to me that Ganondorf was best at dealing with Link the first time he met him. In Ocarina, he's pretty clever and able to use Link to his advantage for awhile.
  • Kichigai birthday!!
That's why I like more Majora's Mask.Skull Kid felt more like a threat than Ganon
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
Even aside from that, I like Skull Kid as a character more than I like Ganondorf as one.

He did finally get some actual motivation in Wind Waker, but as of Ocarina of Time, he was just kinda a dick.
  • You can change. You can.
I dunno, I always felt that Zelda was basically a fairy tale. Evil guys are evil because they're evil, and Link is the chosen one because he's the chosen one. No explanations needed.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
    They aren't needed.

That doesn't mean providing them can't be a bonus, though.
  • You can change. You can.
True, although I feel they can bog down on the atmosphere and so on.

but what do i know, i haven't even played majora's mask.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
It doesn't really get in the way. It just provides a little flavor.

    Go play Majora's Mask.
  • You can change. You can.
    get me an N64 >:|
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
    Get you an emulator.
  • You can change. You can.
Gemme a joystick and time to play between all the exams.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
I've played OOT emulated without a joystick and it worked okay.

Time...yeah, I would love to have time-manipulation abilities, especially right now, but that I can't help with.
  • You can change. You can.
I did play OOT with a keyboard, and well, it wasn't that bad, but some bits demanded you to lower keyboard sensibility in lieu of having an analog stick.

Hmmm, OK, I'll give it a thought. I just don't wanna play a game I'll either play occasionally in between all the work and stuff or become addicted to a game and forget about schoolwork (Which is the most probable one, knowing me)
  • One foot in front of the other, every day.
In other news, it seems that Skyward Sword might have some decently fine sword control. Now, if only they had weapon collisions in-game...
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
^^Might want to wait until a more convenient time, then.

^I'm not entirely sure they don't.
  • Kichigai birthday!!
HEY HEY HAVE I MENTIONED I'M LEFT HANDED AND IT WILL BE FUCKING AWKWARD FOR ME TO PLAY SKYWARD SWORD
  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
Without the period without the sword, the aspect of Link being a simple peasant/farmboy/islander is lost. It's one of those 'character establishment without words'.

Also, I got to play Skyward Sword at Comic Con. The controls are sublime. No more jumping forward when you mean to roll to the side. This one will not take me several months to beat.
  • You start with a sword in the CDI-games. They had pretty decent voices in the Dutch version.

I've heard lefties say it's pretty easy to acclimatize to the right-handedness, so that'll probably turn out okay.

  • They're somethin' else.
Is it really so hard to flip the character model ambidextriously?
  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
From what I've heard it would cause issues with motion detect and the way the sword swing goes, and in Skyward Sword which way you swing actually does make a significant impact.

Oh right. I guess you wouldn't know because YOU HAVEN'T PLAYED IT YET! =P
  • One foot in front of the other, every day.
How significant, Malk? I must know.
  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
There was a miniboss I fought that would block a certain way making only a certain directional sword swing possible to hit him. Once I penetrated the retard part of my brain to realize this fact it was very intuitive to fight him. I only had a little issue with the upswing and that's because I kept jerking down before jerking up. It's really good, and riding those sky-bird things is hella fun.

The only worry is the boss was kinda sword-swinging dependent and I hope that doesn't reflect all bosses.
  • Skyward Sword is out? T_T
  • You can change. You can.
No. Malk just managed to play a preview.

    the lucky fucker.
  • One foot in front of the other, every day.

    Hahaha fuck your opinion :D
  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
No, it's not out until November. I was just at Comic Con.

^You can jack off to sword-play all you want, but Zelda bosses are surrounded around using your tools to solves problems, not slicing shit till it breaks.
