"School Zone: Speed Limit 20 During Restricted Hours"

edited 2011-09-28 18:48:40 in Meatspace
Uh...care to tell us what those hours are?

Granted, some of the signs have lights that flash when the reduced speed limit is in effect. They seem to flash at the opening and closing of school, but not in the midday hours.

But...when you post the signs without the flashing lights, how the hell am I supposed to know when they apply? Every school's schedule is slightly different.

Well, technically, everyone in the US is required to have every law or regulation memorized, so you should know even without a sign.

    :P
  • no longer cuddly, but still Edmond
Which is why government is stupid and anarchy rocks. More dead kids that way.
  • Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the last Day.
    Hahahaha, dead schoolchildren are funny.
  • Removing school zones would reduce childhood obesity... >.>

Here in Australia they generally have the decency to spell the hours out on the signs.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
They do it in Alabama, too.
  • I've seen one or two in Ohio that spell out the hours, but the "during restricted hours" variation seems to be more common here.

What are the hours of school in your state? There. Problem solved.

In Canada they also state the hours on the sign.

    Also, 20 is incredibly...

    "miles"

    Oh.

Dagnabbit, the majority of the world uses metric nowadays.

Here in Australia they generally have the decency to spell the hours out on the signs.

    Usually something like 8:00 - 9:30, then 3:00 - 4:30.
  • I recall the signs here included lunch hours. 11:00 - 1:30 or something.
  • The only one I can remember that had the times listed simply said 7 AM - 4 PM, though this is something of an oddity, as it seems most of them are only in effect at the opening and closing of the school day.
  • Ours just says "When children are present."

Of course my mom got ticketed for going normal speed through such a zone at 10 PM on a weekend, so yeah.
  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
The signs in NY and especially in NYC tend to state hours.

^^^^ Lunch hours? Back in my day kids got to school at 8:30 and stayed there 'til our folks came to pick us up at 4:30 in the afternoon. Otherwise we walked uphill both ways to get there. (Holy crap, thinking about it, I really did walk uphill both ways, it's just that I also walked downhill both ways...)

    ^^Wow...That's gotta suck.
  • In Scotland, the law is "20 mph near a school". Regardless of the time.
  • Yeah, most of the signs like this in Connecticut seem to imply "regardless of time".
