I just typed the word October and for some reason my mind was shouting

"This is wrong! wrong! wrong!"

As I've read more Americanised spelling, it's started looking wrong to me to use "s" in the "ise" of such words instead of "z". Damn you, USA, we speak the Queen's Bloody English in the Commonwealth!

Typing in English makes my Spanish looks bizarre.

you, USA, we speak the Queen's Bloody English in the Commonwealth!
Both spellings used to be used interchangeably in British English, and the standardization of "-ise" only came about as a backlash to the US standardizing "-ize".

    Lingual backlash?

    Huh.
  • You can change. You can.
you know that the US and the UK bicker like little bitches about everything.
  • One foot in front of the other, every day.
Well yes. Australia is invariably stuck in the middle.

(Although most of us tend to side with the UK.)

Actually, Wikipedia claims that it's only Australia and New Zealand where "-ise" is used exclusively; in the UK and other parts of the Commonwealth it's more common but "-ize" is still accepted.
