Does this show get better? Because I keep hearing good things about it, but...

    I just discovered that apparently my parents/grandparents were huge Twin Peaks fans back when it was on.

    I haven't seen it yet, though.

    The problem with Twin Peaks' pilot is that it has to establish almost every conflict the series will face early on. I should mention that this show is hardly about Laura Palmer's murder. this show is about Twin Peaks' population, their lives and how much messed up they were, same way Laura's was, anyway. 

    Because one of the most recurring themes in Lynch's work is basically "Those neat people you see in postcards and leaflets? they are actually serial killer, pimps and drug addicts. Just saying, dude"

    I felt the opening was pretty lousy when it didn't have Agent Cooper on screen, and some of the actors at that point hadn't read their Uta Hagen.

    Definetly. I think the pilot wouldn't have been picked up if it wasn't beacuse of McLachlan's impressive performance as Cooper. He pretty much dominates the whole 45 mins he appears on.

    the third epsiode is the episode where he dreams about the killer's identity, right?

    That episode was directed by Lynch in case it wasn't obvious.

    I thought Lynch directed the majority of season 1? Except for...erm...the finale and a couple of different eps.

    Cooper snapping his fingers to the music after waking up from the dream was WTF-inducing, WMG-inducing and most importantly, awesome.

    ^^Fun fact. They were ready to do that shot where he hits the bottle numerous times, but McLahlan got it on the first try. The squeal Lucy makes was genuine and ad libbed.

    Really funny thing I should try: Watch Blue Velvet and then Twin Peaks and watch all the dissonance at play.
