  • You can change. You can.
The Matrix (the first one at least) was a legitimately good piece of film

You shut your goddamn whore mouth.
  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
The action was good, but the story itself is the same hero's journey checklist you get in most sub-par films. The dialogue is woeful at times, and Trinity had all the character of the beer bottle at my desk.

    I liked the trilogy...

I liked Reloaded because it eschewed any plot or character progression for prolonged action scenes and philosophy dialogues which were the first film's strong points.

    You're thinking of Revolutions

Still, bigger than the sum of its parts, and its basis, it's still a well structured film, which is not something you can say of many movies in the nineties (Hello, Usual Suspects clones~)
  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
I think it's got a consistent structure that keeps it from being a bad movie, but it's not the visionary cinema people make it out to be, and it's nowhere near as smart as people like to pretend.

Easy to say in hindsight; most of us were snot-nosed kids at the time of release, so we can't easily draw on the time's context.

I dunno, the first matrix movie was amazing the first time I saw it. At that time I was 11 years old. Now, not as much. I still think it's a good movie in many ways, but it has way to many stupid and illogical elements for me to take it entirely seriously. I mean come on, the entire premise of the movie (the machines are using humans for energy) is a blatant violation of the second law of thermodynamics and without even going into technicalites it should be obvious to most rational people that burning whatever food the machines are giving the humans would lead to a more effcient use of that energy, since the human body needs to use part of the energy simply to stay alive. The whole thing is so stupid, that it almost destroys my enjoyment of the movie, since it terminates any suspension of disbelief. I can get past it though and as I said it's still an OK movie, it's stylish, the action is great, it's not completely dumb and the first time you see it (unspoiled) the whole "artificial world" reveal is pretty good. Still much prefer Dark City though.

As for the original topic: In theory this is such an outrageous idea that I should find it funny simply due to this. However I find myself not caring too much for it after looking over the link. However that might be mostly due to the character designs, which are god-awfully generic, but are really of no consequence since it's a novel. I don't know, it seems a little to "by-the-numbers" weird as opposed to actual weird. But we'll see.

Also, my national pride is totally offended that someone would think of "Alex Kierkegård" before "Søren Kierkegård" at the mention of the Kierkegård name. :p

MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
^^Except that the main reason we were impressed was because we were kids who hadn't seen The Twilight Zone yet.

As a gateway into philosophical concepts it's pretty good. As a movie it's pretty mediocre.

Also, it's easy to say that Hamlet is one the greatest works of the English language in hindsight. Doesn't make it any less true.
  • One foot in front of the other, every day.
    Star Wars > Hamlet
  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
Until there's a 'remastered' version of Hamlet with Hayden Christensen you can suck a cock, good sir.
  • One foot in front of the other, every day.
Actually, someone should make a Hamlet adaptation in the Warhammer 40k setting.

Tell me, with a straight fact, that it wouldn't be awesome.
  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
If I ever become a director I want to do Hamlet and MacBeth as Space Operas.
  • One foot in front of the other, every day.
But still Renaissancy. Just the Renaissance in space.
  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
Well yeah. Like there are space westerns, there should be space swashbucklers.
  • $80+ per session
The Renaissance in Space would be cool.

I want to say "It's been done", but I'm not entirely sure.
