Our retardedly Neo-Victorian society.

I'd really like someone to tell why the fuck I can't view porn freely, other than "A bunch of retarded people in England hated sex and thought it would corrupt minors". (And yes, I do know that I probably failed History forever with that statement)

Comments

  • Because you're a minor.

Viewing porn at your age might alter your psyche and leave you a disturbed individual.
  • With the fucked up fantasies that go on in my head, I'm no where near getting "corrupted" (what a bullshit pseudo-scientific term....)

Also, this thread was inspired by me learning on another forum that it's illegal for me to view even Ecchi pictures. Yes. Seriously.
  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
    Clock...

    It's Chagen. =P

More seriously, there are good reasons for restricting sexuality to minors (like what Clock said) but I do feel we do get too restrictive in much more damaging ways in many cases, such as abstinence only education.

Also as a minor, you're not responsible for yourself, your parents are.
  • "More seriously, there are good reasons for restricting sexuality to minors"

Uh, no, there isn't, besides bullshit victorian belief that should have died out a fucking long time ago (Yes, I MAD).
  • Chagen, consider this, It was just joked about in this thread that viewing pornographic material wouldn't screw you up because of who are you.

But perhaps it was because you have already viewed pornographic material that you don't see the reasons why disallowing it to children is encouraged.

One foot in front of the other, every day.
It's the internet. I have been using it for porn since well before I was a legal adult. It's one of the most difficult things to contain or limit so hit up Danbooru or whatever, I dunno. If you want to look at porn, nothing is stopping you.

MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
Suppose a child sees a lot of rape porn, for example, he could grow up seeing this as the normal way sex works.

    ^That too.

Now if you excuse me I'm going to go e-mail to all the people Junior Counselored in the religious retreat with attachments of NGE Yuri.
  • Alex: I was jusf WTF-ing because it's apparently illegal for me to technically view a, say, fanservice anime/manga.

No more Ecchi dumps in Doujinstyle, it seems.
  • One foot in front of the other, every day.
And this is news? I thought porn restrictions were pretty common knowledge.
  • Yeah, but to this extent I didn't know. I assumed only pure hardcore porn (or Hentai) was illegal for me to view. Not something like Ecchi.
  • PREDICTABO

Anyway, I've always found complaints about American society being Puritanical to be very loaded and hyperbolic, taking elements that only a few idiots exhibit and blowing those up as representative of our society as a whole.

Okay, I've noticed this going on for a while now: making general titles for specific topics which tends to border on psychological projection. Can we all stop that?
  • Technically too, it falls on the site's responsibility to not allow children to view what is classified as porn.

  • What the fuck is this thread.

    Why is this thread?
  • no longer cuddly, but still Edmond
Suppose a child sees a lot of rape porn, for example, he could grow up seeing this as the normal way sex works.

See the problem with that is, well, have you ever seen a child develop that way? Seriously? While children can be influenced by the media in bad ways (so can adults--its called the CSI Effect), a lot of our notions are based more in paranoid thinking than anything that is backed by legitimate science or research.
