So, I'm reading this article about how Christopher Nolan is the director of the generation. About how we get "one director like him"...
It just opens my eyes a lot. As someone whose goal is to be a successful filmmaker, it's just so awing how much of an amazing director this guy is. Just like...how does he do it. Really, he's probably my biggest inspiration.

I suppose it just bothers me that people like it for entirely the wrong reasons.
Plus, I just loved paradox, bitch!
Its not superheroes and dark I hate--unless you're going to tell me Ultraman, He-Man and Megaman aren't superheroes and 3x3 Eyes, James Bond (sometimes) and R-Type aren't dark. I didn't even dislike Burton's Batman, if you remember.
And I've seen the Prestige and didn't think very highly of it either--at the time, I thought its gimmick of jumping around from scene to scene in the story's timeline was artsy and pretentious, coming off like an attempt to gussy up a really rather straightforward story. But since he does almost the same goddamn thing in the Batman movies (not the timeline part but he does have a way of just constantly jumping from scene to scene, sometimes in the middle of dialogue), I guess that's just how he rolls.
You can quit working the "they're two bad things that go worse together?" angle you've got. That's not the case.
*hides knife*In any case, Nolan's a treasure house. He's another of the new era of film brat, and it shows since I refuse to believe that for Batman Begins he didn't just polish off a lot of the sets from Blade Runner.
That said, my favorite director of the time is probably Guillermo Del Toro, then Nolan, then... Sam Raimi I guess.
I just want to know, because I want to be so much like them.
That kind of opened the flood gates and later guys like Tarantino and Robert Rodrgiuez came in who grew up on seventies exploitation films rather that 40s serials and slapstick comedy. Their affection for thos kinds of films combined with an appreciation of actual masterpieces is what sent them skyward. Initially, a lot of critics thought Tarantino's shlock-love was something he would grow out of, rather than what actually identified him as a director.
^That's a pretty fair assessment. Really though, I can explain every plot twist in Inception.
