The Justice League reboot

MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
I decided to pick it up because Johns can be a good writer when he's not overcome with the desire to get on his knees and suck off his favorite characters and the art being by Jim Lee at least mean that the art would pay for the book.

Honestly, the thing that bugs me about the book is how... unsurprisingly bland it is. Outside of one really dumb thing I'll talk about in about, it's a really generic uninspired reboot. The action is great, and the introduction of Cyborg has some nice emotional moments but otherwise it's middling Johns with way too slow pacing. (though stuff actually happens which is more than I can give Bendis' Avengers) It's really beautiful plodding set up. Superman looks way too young also, but eh.

Then there's the really stupid thing that happens halfway through when Batman and Green Lantern meet.

Batman.

Palms.

Green Latern's ring.

WHILE HE'S WEARING IT!

Now I love Batman as much as anyone with the social skills necessary to hang out on the internet, but seriously that's a semi-sentient piece of super-technology that's fixated on Hal for life. There's no way that should be able to happen. I'd normally chalk this up to people propping up Batman more than he should be, but Batman is one of the few characters Johns can't stand. My only theory is that he wanted to continue his path of making Batman a raging dick in every comic he writes, but instead it just made Hal look really incompetent.

I'll give another few issues to get a groove, but for newcomers I'd wait for Morrison's action comics and Snyder's Batman.

    Zack? :3c
  • Hey Malk, can you explain the context of how Green Lantern can't stand Batman?

Jesus Christ I hadn't even thought of that. No, Scott Snyder.

Jesus, I would shit blood if that happened.

^No, not Green Lantern. The writer, Geoff Johns. Whenever he writes Batman he always portrays him as a vindictive dick ("The last time you inspired anyone, Superman, was when you were dead!" Way to talk to your best friend, buddy.) and has repeatedly stated he thinks Bats is 'overrated'.

When written by most other writers Bats and GL are cool.
  • You know how people have comprised that one site, "Superman is a dick"?

You should do the same for Batman :3c

The thing is Silver Age Batman is no lie one of the nicest guys ever.  He's always friendly and up front. It's more often Superman who generally has these weird things he does because he's trying to protect people or he's under the influence of magic or is actually Bizarro or whatever.

And I've noticed a lot of people like Batman as a raging near-sociopath, probably for wish fulfillment reasons.

Fan interpretations of him being a dick are better anyways.

I like Batman when he's a mix of things. Not a straight out sociopath, but somewhat obsessed and damaged. But someone who still tries to be a good person to the people around him.

Paul Dini found a good mix I think, and I feel Morrison managed to perfectly mix in the craziness of Batman stories with the darker aspects.

OH HAY MALK LIKES GRANT MORRISON WHAT A TWEEST!
