Smallville's Green Arrow

MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
He's basically just Batman.

I understand that the character was initially just a bland repackaging of Batman to sell more comics, but he's become much more of a character since then. The worst part is the series tries to shoehorn in their liberal sensibilities but ignores that Arrow as he is in the comics would have been the perfect mouthpiece.

At that age Green Arrow should be wearing a Grateful dead T-shirt and be all "So yeah, Dinah and I got some tickets to the new Ani DiFranco show. Hey Clark, don't bogart that joint!"

  • Green was, both in the comics and in Smallville, meant to be another Batman. The creators of Smallville actually wanted to use young Bruce Wayne but they couldn't because Batman Begins was in production.

As far as Green Arrow being liberal, I'm pretty sure that came later, like way into his heroing days, so it'd make sense for a younger Ollie Queen not to be like that.

I covered that he was initially just a Batman ripoff, but as I covered that's not how most people see him as BatArrow is a bad character. I get their desire for Batman but it seems lazy storytelling to not use his better character and just slap the image over Batman, which also cheapens the foreshadowing of Batman they occasionally have in my eyes. Why should Clark care about this 'billionaire with brilliant gadgets' when he already has one?

As for the 'when he was younger thing' thing.... well that's a little hard to buy. I mean, his political motivations always were portrayed to be as emotional as they were logical which always felt like they were long-standing beliefs. Also, the arrow in Smallville isn't an Arrow starting out. When he shows up in Season 6, he's full-fledged and at the top of his game.
  • For some reason when I saw the thread title I assumed it would be about the arrow on a traffic light.
