"the site's problems (which aren't even that many to begin with.)"

Out of curiosity, do you follow Image Pickin', Trope Repair Shop, YKTTW and/or Ask The Tropers?
  • ^^ Possibly.  I don't read that thread much, but it does seem like people who complain about things are looked at with more scrutiny.

^ Okay, so maybe it's just the serious problems which aren't that great to begin with.  As in, the problems which make the wiki a less enjoyable place to be, as TvTropes is, all in all, a pretty sweet website.  And... no, not really.

^Yeah, it's true that we don't get lots of site-threatening problems or anything. There's lots of minor ones, though.

Oh God... I was fine with them taking away IJBM, we had a warning for long enough for me to get used to the idea but taking so bad it's horrible away? Who was getting hurt by that? Aside from people like me who happened to like watching stuff that was there just for the train wreck of it all, making the whole thing self-inflicted. I dunno about anyone else, but the fall of the So Bad Its Horrible just made the wiki a little less fun for me
  • It's still there, just less link-able.

    I feel better now

    Specifically, it's here.

Though I have to say, keeping the URL as "Ptitlew9bltta3dv6n" (with no unpunctuated redirects) after the ptitle link system is gone kinda irks me, as it makes it nearly impossible to find or link to without knowing the URL.

just gotta add to favorites I guess
  • What is the point of making it impossible to link to but not deleting it? If he wants it gone, why not just get rid of it?

But if he deletes SBIH before TT I will be mildly irked.

He trimmed a lot of the worse TT entries. He also chucked out the entire Fetish Fuel namespace and cut it down to a defining, no-examples entry.

IJBM: People treating the entire namespace as if it were a plague.
  • We go to TVT, the least you people can do is link to the "problems" that are happening.

If I were a writer, I'd find a list of works that completely failed to tell an interesting story useful. What's the point of cataloging tropes while banning any talk of whether their use benefited or harmed the work?

With exceptions that include The Star Wars Holiday Special
and Plumbers Don't Wear Ties, virtually everything has a fan somewhere.

    SBIH is for those exceptions.
  • The problem resides in getting people to agree on what those exceptions are, and keeping it clean from stuff that can lead to shitstorms. This would take a toll on the moderation team, and for whatever reason, the policy regarding moderators is to not add more unless it becomes absolutely necessary. As long as this is still the case, SBIH would be a waste of resources.

How about this: if someone tries to remove a work from SBIH, it's not an exception and it stays off the page. Such a system would attract a troll or two, but it would keep SBIH from undergoing trope decay and would keep flame wars on the discussion page.
  • That sounds pretty reasonable, did you propose it?
  • Silence is golden.
"How about this: if someone tries to remove a work from SBIH, it's not an
exception and it stays off the page."

I tried to work under that system but then I ran into cases like Signed removing Transformers:Kiss Players with the reasons being that the lolicon fanservice is "well-drawn" and that the haters are just bandwagon-jumpers.

Beside, the proposed system wouldn't keep single-issue wonks from edit-warring -something that happens often, and the moderators are very adamant about not moderating what goes on there. Just let the piece of shit rot.

Well, technically, Signed proves that there aren't absolutely no people who like a work in question.

Seems like the best idea is just to cut the examples or stuff them into some alternate wiki.  Say, the TV Tropes Spinoff Wiki For Flaming.
  • Well, technically, Signed proves that there aren't absolutely no people who like a work in question.

Yes, but Signed is special enough to safely ignore.

Besides, while moderating the SBIH page itself would probably be simple, there's the issue with people trying to make references to stuff being SBIH elsewhere in the wiki, and it'd be really hard to track down every time someone claims seeing The Last Airbender is equivalent to having your sister raped in front of your very eyes.

Then the best thing to do would be to leave Kiss Players off the page. Almost every sane person would call it SBIH, but wouldn't you rather have a handful of deserving works off the page than have SBIH gone entirely?
  • There's a TV tropes spin-off wiki?

Heh, Kiss Players sounds more interesting than anything else Transfomers-wise.
  • So it's KISS + Transformers? Woo!pedia
  • Heh, Kiss Players sounds more interesting than anything else Transfomers-wise.
No, Kiss Players is a blight upon the earth, if you really want "anime-ized" Transformers, you can always watch Transformers Cybertron or Robots In Disguise.
  • Likes cheesecake unironically.
I just said that it's more interesting. Not whether it's in a positive or negative way.

Also, it's not like it's saying much. Or anything at all. The last time I thought that robots turning into vehicles were cool, I was five years old.
  • But they turn into animals in Beast Wars!
  • Last time I thought it was cool, I woke up in a cop car with no panties.

There's a fork of TV Tropes?
  • I'LL STAY MAI HAUNDS...WITH YAU BLAHT
Wait, Gus is dead? Like, actually dead?
  • Yup. Passed away and what not. Old guy.mp3
