So Bad It's Horrble Got Redlinked.

edited 2011-02-25 20:09:22 in General
Morgan Freeman is God
Yet another example of the Admins making the wiki more "pleasant" by needless White Knighting. People complaining on the internet? MUST DELETE ALL REMOTELY NEGATIVE ARTICLES.

Seriously, if Gus were alive today, he'd be ashamed of what his site has become.

To be fair, the entire So Bad It's Horrible namespace is shit.
  • Uh, no, they redlinked everything but the Ptitle on Darth Wiki to curb casual potholing to it. They're fiddling with the subjectives a lot lately.
  • ^^Now-dead co-founder of the site.

    OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
SoBadItsHorrible needs to die. Badly. I'm disappointed it hasn't been cut yet.

But I like having SnarkBait on the wiki!
  • Creature - Florida Dragon Turtle Human
SoBadItsHorrible is basically an inversion of SoBadItsGood.

This seems to be the sort of page that, if there are enough people arguing over it, ought to have its examples removed, or transferred to another website.
  • There is no such thing as Web Comic examples of So Bad It's Horrible.

What's so bad about SBIH? Edit warring? The sheer subjectivity?

^They're on the "Comics" page. Or I think they were...
  • Subjectivity? My ass. everyone has to AGREE something is horrible lest they nuke your link as Fan Hating.
  • everyone has to AGREE something is horrible lest they nuke your link as Fan Hating.

Er... isn't that the whole point of the namespace?
For works that nobody thinks are good?
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
^^The namespace doesn't really have a point beyond "keeping that crap off the main wiki."
  • Anything existing to "keep that crap off the main wiki" should probably not be on the site at all. Especially if "that crap" causes trouble/is bad for the site's reputation.

...Would you say the YMMV namespace is a bad thing?
  • I honestly don't understand what the purpose of the wiki is at all, really...
  • It's to catalog storytelling devices and conventions, primarily.
  • Creature - Florida Dragon Turtle Human
Isn't it to catalogue conceptual devices and related aspects of creative work?

    Allegedly.

Though I'm not sure what the point of that is.  Just identifying things doesn't really accomplish a whole lot, other than occupying people's time.

And that's why I stopped reading the wiki a longish time ago.

"Seriously, if Gus were alive today, he'd be ashamed of what his site has become."

Crap. Someone found a loophole in Troper's Law.

So Bad It's Horrible isn't a bad idea. List of films considered the worst is a Wikipedia page I find immensely amusing. The trouble is that we're dealing with the same wiki community that thinks every minor thing is so unbelievable that they just have to pothole it to I Am Not Making This Up.

"Er... isn't that the whole point of the namespace?
For works that nobody thinks are good?"

With exceptions that include The Star Wars Holiday Special and Plumbers Don't Wear Ties, virtually everything has a fan somewhere.

  • It's of interest if you like categorization, or writing, or that "I've seen this before, never had a name for it" feeling.

Okay, I really meant that that's what it seems to claim its point is, though it's true that you really can't find examples of things that nobody thinks are good.

^ I guess.  It just seems kind of odd that something like that ends up being so popular.  Although people do love being told things they already know, I guess.
  • For some reason, I'm imagining a scene parodying Harry Potter where Bobby G tells a newbie they're a troper.

  • "Harry, yer a troper"
  • Who would get to be Voldemort?
  • Mount Fire Eyes.
  • He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named, you mean.
  • She came back as a zombie once.
  • Who was controlled by Saturn.
  • Hm, the admins really do seem to have a thing for deleting anything that isn't "Super happy time, yay!"  I don't mind terribly, but I don't really think that people complaining is the only thing to blame for all of the site's problems (which aren't even that many to begin with.)  I mean, I guess there was always the possibility that someone would see something the liked on the list and become offended, but most of the things there were so incredibly obscure that no hypothetical "fans" of the work would even be likely to see it.
  • People who hate things are ruining wiki, if anything from the Edit Banned thread stands true.
