Girls stealing boy names

edited 2011-08-08 22:45:24 in General
Glaives are better.
Kelsey, Ashley, Lesley, Lindsey, Kelly, Morgan, the list goes on. Eventually, the only masculine name left will be John, and even that's being threatened by the encroaching "Jackie."

I thought Ali was a masculine name that's not of European origin.

The first Morgan I got to know is male, so I was surprised to learn that it is a typically female name.
  • Names are not indicative of Gender, surprising I know.
  • HILARY

    Gender: Feminine & Masculine

    Usage: English

    Pronounced: HIL-ə-ree

Medieval English form of HILARIUS or HILARIA.
During the Middle Ages it was primarily a masculine name. It was
revived in Britain at the beginning of the 20th century as a
predominantly feminine name. In America, this name and the variant Hillary seemed to drop in popularity after Hillary Clinton (1947-) became the first lady.

The worst part is that legitimately new names are also female far more often than male. People just love giving their daughters (and apparently not their sons) interesting names, I guess.
