One funny thing about "pandering"...
Comments
Wonder if there's any fanart of that...In the meantime...
> Then maybe I'll either be happy, or else start bitching about Japanese stupidity instead.
Ten bucks on the latter.
Admittedly the former is more drawn out in the manga.
"Misao thoughtlessly grabbed a bit of my shirt, EEEK! *slap*" --keep in mind Misao isn't even a guy.
As for Konata: "I beat up a foreigner for asking Tsukasa directions! And I'm proud of it!"
Also, I might have been exaggerating slightly since I was on a time limit yesterday (I still am, but a lot less of one).
Which goes back to the greater issue of what exactly defines "pandering" and why I should believe its a real thing and not a bullshit dismissal that people come up with whenever they can't find a real flaw.
You don't have to.
What's a "real" flaw?
I mean, I could accuse Deedlit (Record of Lodoss War) of being pandering--she seems far more obvious to me than any moeblob--but then, that's an anime I consider one of the worst pieces of shit to ever come out of any country ever, so I'm biased.
And a "real" flaw is something like "What the hell is supposed to be the joke here? I don't get it." or "Man, there's way too many panels devoted to Konata's dad." or "For some reason volume six crashes on me at around page 36."
Though, if that last one is really happening, I'd say you've got big problems...
Let's say you have a scene where a superhero/superheroine uses super strength to stop a speeding jetliner that's just landed (and too fast) from running off the runway.
What possible perspectives would your camera (or "camera" if animated) focus on?
* basic picture of human-sized character pushing against the front wheels of the jetliner.
* jetliner's wheels.
* character's hands pushing against jetliner, side view.
* front view of character's face, showing strained facial expression.
* back view just above character, showing hands pushing against wheels and dipped head.
* character's feet, sliding backwards on the pavement, possibly with sparks or smoke.
* a perspective shot showing how far the jetliner is from the end of the runway or whatever it might crash into.
When, instead, we're getting pictures of the character's crotch, butt, or (especially if female) bust, then it's safe to say that counts as fanservice (which is by definition pandering).
(though, it makes me wonder why there's so many seemingly-pointless butt-focus scenes in My Little Pony).
