Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

The ultimate thread. Because if we don't get over this now, we will never get over it.

So here are the following things people find annoying about said game:

Regenerating Health - Where, instead of looking for health kits, calling for a medic or team mate, or sucking it up and killing yourself to regain full health again, you hide behind cover to regain your health. People DO NOT FUCKING LIKE THIS, apparently.
MMORPGesque Weapon Upgrades - Where the longer you play and the more kills you accumulate with your perks and weapons, they will get more unlockables, like Laser scopes, increased firepower, and different colored decals for them, and unlocking new abilities you can do online. RPG fans tend to enjoy this bit, but FPS fans DO NOT FUCKING LIKE THIS, apparently.
The Online Community - Thanks to the revolutionization of shit-talking during death-match orientated games, and the target audience (people who like to kill other people in online games), being online in lower-ranking death matches means you either mute your TV and ignore everything they can possibly say, and change your profile to Friends Only, or eat waves of bile and shit they spew, filled with anger and pride.

Is there anything I missed?

I am fine with the first two things, in general.

The third has put me off multiplayer on pretty much all FPSes.
  • Objectively, If you know where health packs are, you don't have to search around for them / Health Regen is nothing but a difficulty based on waiting around after you complete an objective, and if it's one thing FPS people can't do, It's wait around.
  • I am alright with the last thing, because I can just mute everyone.

I do not like the second thing at all.

The first I am mostly neutral toward, though I do slightly prefer non-regenerating health, but it's not really a big deal.

Really, the main thing I don't like about Call of Duty is just that you die way too quickly.  Which is related to the fact that I suck at it.

...they can't wait around? But isn't that what sniping is all about, paitence and precision...and...now I know why quickscoping is so popular all of the sudden.

    -sigh-

At least Nazi Zombie games will never turn bad. :3

Speak for yourself, I enjoy using over-elaborate (usually unnecessarily so, which is why I'm not the best FPS player) tactics, and those tend to involve a good deal of waiting.
  • Never sell power. What's the point of new players when they're always getting killed by those with guns that are superior in every way?
  • You can change. You can.
I just suck at FPS in general. Only reason why I play TF2 is because of the delicious, delicious chaos.

The main gripe I have with it is Hardcore Mode.

Mostly because all you ever need to do is throw grenades or push the shoot button once, while waiting behind a good corner and you never lose, since it turns leg shots into instant-kills and hides the hud so you can never navigate correctly unless you memorize the map perfectly.

ninjaclown: Can't that be solved with tiering?

Granted, I do not know if CoD has that or not.
  • Why should you need self-imposed tiers? It shouldn't ever come to that.

Well you can buy Prestige in most of the games so it makes it so you max out your levels entirely and get all of the guns and perks that aren't tied to achievements so you can get the M-18 with Grenade Launcher the instant you join your first match (which is the first gun you get which has become the metagun anyway).

Why should you need self-imposed tiers? It shouldn't ever come to that.
    Pokemon
  • ^^ Well it could be game-imposed tiers.

Like, in Korean online shooter GunZ: The Duel, matches can be restricted to certain ranges of levels, so everyone in the match is going to have roughly similar access to weapons and armor (well... in practice, not really since the level ranges are pretty large, but it's better than nothing, I guess).

I meant like, sorting people with basic equipment from those with insanely expensive/otherwise hard to get stuff.

Just makes sense to me, I honestly don't know enough about the issue to care.

    Agreed. So. Fucking. Much.

    Pokemon

If I ever make that pokemon thread where I outline why I kinda dislike it, I'll definetly use this as an argument.
  • Thane of rum-guzzling and necromancy

To add to that that the map layouts suck so much, You can't stay in one place. They're designed so that anyone can sneak up on you from any direction. I understand that they wanted to stop camping, but it makes it worse by forcing you to keep on the move all the time. Tactics and strategy go completely to pot.

  • Why MW2 sucks.

Hardcore mode. Why are all the fucking servers doing this bs?

Too many game breaking weapons. Hello Noob tube, I remember you from MW1. Owait, now everyone has those stupid heartbeat sensors or double shotguns that instapwn everything.

Stupid support options. Fuck those helicopters and shit. This is suppose to be a FIRST PERSON shooter. How fucking cheap ARE those stupid things? Oh right, and then a nuke just ENDS the game.

    MW1 > MW2
  • Thane of rum-guzzling and necromancy

Yeah, that is complete BALLS. People who are doing well just get more support options and shit, for the sake of it.

Though they somewhat fixed that with barebones game modes, which do away with killstreaks.

  • Why should you need self-imposed tiers? It shouldn't ever come to that.

It's worth pointing out that balancing is really freaking damn hard. Games work on a schedule, which means you have limited time for testing. After the game is released, though, and assuming it's moderately popular, you'll have the equivalent of years of manpower testing every single aspect of the game in a few weeks, they'll find out exactly what's the optimal way to play, they'll figure out some ways of playing the testing team overlook, etc. Patches can fix that, yes, but that just changes the status quo temporarily, it's very hard to measure how to effectively make balancing changes and not make things worse, unless there's some pretty blatant stuff going on.
