  • Time to make an EGS RPG! :D

  • Glaives are better.
GemRB is being developed as an open-source Infinity Engine. Which would be fun.
  • WHY DOES IT ALL COST MONEY D:<

YOU'D THINK PEOPLE HAD TO MAKE A LIVING, OR SOMETHING.
  • Let me look into GemRB, see if I could tweak it for our needs.
  • Glaives are better.
It looks like it's mainly used with the D&D system, which would limit things unless it's possible to substitute a homebrew system. A hard-coded D&D base would prevent anything other than nonprofit uses, due to copyright laws.
  • What about the d20 SRD?
  • Glaives are better.

    That's possible.

I'd have to re-fluff and re-stat practically everything, though.

  • One of the tweaks to see if I could make is some sort alternate rules engine other than the D&D engine.
  • Glaives are better.

    That would definitely work.

    Tech support
Let me browse the source and see how much of a challenge it would be.

EDIT: Alright I would give the difficulty of changing the system around a 5 on a scale of 1 to 10. The major challenge would be tool creation. One major issue that might pop up is that everything is 2D.
  • Glaives are better.
Would it be possible to create a 3d image using some pre-rendered models, take a picture of it from an isometric perspective, then transfer it to the map editor and map collision detectors?
  • First let me see what modding tools I can find for the infinity engine and see how they work and second what you are proposing is taking some 2D pictures of a 3D object which would be simply taking a 3D engine, telling it to loading a model, displaying it,rotating in appropriately and taking some screen grab, maybe applying some post processing as well, correct.
  • Glaives are better.
That's basically it. I don't know the language used to describe such a thing, but I can see it being done.
  • Glaives are better.

Skills at around 70% fleshed out. I still need to assign data values to the powers though.

Starting to write up descriptions and personalities of the joinable NPCs.

  • Glaives are better.

I've got a rough draft for the personalities and roles of the joinable NPCs.

Still working on the skills. Need to assign numerical values to powers, along with experience point mechanics, level scaling and the like.

    • Jonas Vail, human Warden.

      • Tall, gray haired, favors heavy armor. Scars
        everywhere.

      • His two great passions are for his duty and for his
foster daughter Alessia. In the earlier chapters of the game, he'll
be very eager to get her back. Throughout the game he is a mature
voice of reason for the player, often urging the most peaceful and
        just path. Hates Irae.

      • Default expression: Grim.

    • Lazar Tal, dwarf Ranger.

      • Black beard and dark eyes. Missing part of an ear.

      • He hates goblins, trolls, kobolds and other monstrous
creatures. When not fighting, he'll usually urge the player to take
the bloodiest, quickest path, although he does spare time for
        children. Hates Casimir.

      • Default expression: Unimpressed.

    • Marta Sarasdottr, human Assassin.

      • Red hair in pageboy cut. Green eyes. Tall and
slender. Scar across eyebrow. Favors leather clothing.

      • Urges caution in all things, typically wishing to
examine all possible solutions before committing to a single path.
She won't shy away from fighting – indeed, she takes great
pleasure in doing so – but prefers elegant solutions to problems
that may include only a single death. Regrets killing Duke
        Blackthorn.

      • Default expression: Quiet.

    • Irae, elf Warlock.

      • Black hair, green eyes, medium height and skinny.
        Favors dark robes.

      • When confronted with a problem will always urge the
player to commit to the most physically impressive solutions –
i.e., bombing the group of orcs instead of negotiating with them –
and expresses impatience when such spectacles are few and far
between. In all matters, seeks the goal that ends with the
accumulation of power or resources. Hates .

      • Default expression: Sarcastic.

    • Roland Braun, human Inquisitor.

      • Bald, blue eyes. Medium height, slender build. Dueling
scar on left cheek. Favors leather armor.

      • Probably the most gung-ho of all the party members
next to Caius and Esben. Roland always urges the player to destroy
nonhuman creatures instead of negotiating with them, and always
attempts to side with authority when the alternative is to go
against the express wishes of the Church. Hates all nonhuman party
        members.

      • Default expression: Amused.

    • Caius Navarre, human Templar.

      • Black hair, blue eyes. Tall and well built. Favors
        plate armor.

      • Valorous to a fault. Has the tendency to charge
blindly into situations and can get the party into trouble if the
player isn't quick to rein him in. Will always advise combat
against monsters, members of non-Serenist religions, and will
always advise the player to protect the innocent. Becomes less of a
dick if the player regularly intervenes. Hates Marta, Irae, Rivan.

      • Default expression: Determined.

    • Casimir One-Eye, ogre Priest.

      • White hair, yellow eye, scar on left eye covered by
        eyepatch. Favors scale armor.

      • Reluctant to become involved in others' affairs, but
has a soft spot for the downtrodden, the weak and the helpless.
Will always attempt to limit suffering, and is slow to anger and
        quick to forgive. Hates Lazar.

      • Default expression: Sad.

    • Rivan, orc Warrior

      • Blue-gray hair, golden eyes, short and slender. Scar
        across nose. Favors plate armor.

      • Despises weakness. Rivan will always urge the player
to move on in his mission, only stopping for opportunities to loot
and plunder. Quick to anger, has a tendency to invite trouble.
        Hates Irae.

      • Default expression: Determined.

    • Alessia Thorn, human Mage.

      • Blond hair, blue eyes. Short and medium build. Favors
        robes, particularly expensive ones.

      • Always urges the more peaceful route, except when
warlocks, demons or the undead are involved. Is a little greedy.
Always chooses to help the unfortunate when she can, but gradually
understands the need for haste if the protagonist regularly
chastises her for her habits. Hates Irae.

      • Default expression: Thoughtful.

    • Esben, grimalkin Rogue.

      • Orange fur, gray eyes. Short and lean. Favors leather
        armor.

      • Distrusts the police and other members of the
government. Is paranoid, possibly schizophrenic, and is prone to
bouts of depression, mania and fury. Needs a psychotherapist badly.
        Hates Roland.

      • Default expression: Angry.

  • Glaives are better.

I'm getting an artist friend of mine to do some character design for Irae, Marta and Jonas. In the meantime, I'll keep working on assigning numerical values to skills and powers.

I'm also working on a basic plot outline. I've got Chapters 1 and 2 described, and I'm starting to think about level design.
