Putting money in other people's meter is against the law...

....because it prevents meter maids from fulfilling their quota because somebody else is making sure people never run out of time on their meters.

This is true?

  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
Wouldn't surprise me. Tickets make more money after all.
  • quota's are shit to begin with. government shouldn't have to rely on it's citizens being unlawful to make their revenue.
  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
A lot of departments actually outlaw quotas because of the imposition it puts on workers. Of course, it still happens behind closed doors.
  • I once saw someone get ticketed in the twenty seconds it took them to park the car, get out, and put a coin into the meter.  The lady seriously dropped it on his windshield as soon as he turned the engine off.

So yeah, I'd imagine they wouldn't be too happy about denying them valid fines.
  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
To be fair to the meter maids, it's assumed if they don't get a lot they're not doing their job. Doesn't excuse what they did, but they were probably desperate.
  • is this across the country or only in some states?

You'd think if meter maid's aren't collecting a lot of money it's because people are parking well.

In most UK carparks, you are charged as you leave and you get charged based on how long you stayed.
  • Now Conductor that actualoly make smore sense no need ot worry about the meter and getting a ticket. just park and you'll be charged wha tyou owe.
  • No rainbow star
Issue with that is that quite a few people here at least would drive off without paying the owed amount
  • All the ones around here at least, stop you from being ABLE to leave until you pay.
  • sleep is for the we[e/a]k
Do you have parallel parking along the street, too, Conductor? Because here (in Toronto, at least) we have both metered street parking and parking garages like you've described.
  • Yeah, you can park in certain areas along the road, the places you can't are marked with double yellow lines.
  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.
You'd think if meter maid's aren't collecting a lot of money it's because people are parking well.

Which would explain why this is illegal,or so I think...

It's considered obstruction of justice.  By paying for them, you are preventing those who stay longer than they paid for from being caught.

I'd argue against paying for others being illegal, but if everyone paid dilligently or had others pay for them, they'd have to raise the meter rates, because the fines bring in more cash than paying users do.

Well anyone up for a little misdemeanor? Just need about $10 in quarters and a sneaking suit because this is a sneaking mission.

This sounds like the most hilariously silly crime ever.

    Do they organize parking-meter-filling raids?

No, I mean you can find some pretty weird crimes there.

It's one thing to interview a cop about growing heroin problems in your community. It's another thing to then start asking the cop where you can buy the heroin, how to find a dealer, and how much each hit costs
  • Really Glenn you've never read many of the laws on the books. In my state before a marriage is to take place hte bride to be is to be inspected by all the barn animals to ensure a happy farm life.

Parking meter filling raids? That's brilliant! We would all need disguises though.

  • I'm with the Edge on this on e. we should start an epidemic across the world doing this.

I can't wait to see how long it takes for us to be on Interpol's most wanted list.
